Coming off a one-point loss to last season’s Region 6-AAA champion, Cartersville, the Sandy Creek Patriots were in position to bounce back Friday, facing the winless Central, Carroll Lions.

Creek did that and then some, whipping the Lions 45-28 for its second region win of the year.

The 45 points were the most Creek has scored this season. Creek’s previous highest-scoring game this season was a 30-0 victory over Franklin County.

The Patriots (3-3, 2-1 in Region 6-AAA) pummeled the Lions in the first half, holding a 31-9 lead at halftime.

Ragion Neal, Josh Williams and Johnathan Ross each had one rushing touchdown and Braxton Lane had a touchdown reception in the first half.

Lane added two touchdown receptions in the second half to complete the blowout.

All of Central, Carroll's second-half points came against Creek's second-string defense.

Creek quarterback Rio Johnson completed nine of 13 passes for 151 yards and three touchdowns, all to Lane, who had five receptions for 124 yards.

"When Rio and Braxton play well, good things happen for us," Creek coach Chip Walker said. "That's a key most every Friday for us. We know that when we get the ball in Braxton's hands, he will make big plays. He's a very good player."
