By: Michael Boylan

Whitewater High School would like to alert their surrounding neighbors that a military flyover has been planned for Friday, Oct. 19.

Weather and military assets permitting, two F/A-18 Hornets from the Marine Air Base in Beaufort, South Carolina will flyover Whitewater High School prior to their football game against Starr’s Mill High School Friday night.

The flyover will occur between 7-7:30 p.m.

Athletic director Mike Vena has been working on this for a few months - this was not his original date (Homecoming was) and the original plan had been to honor several military families who just had members return from serving in the Middle East. Since he just got the OK the other day, there isn't time to get all of that together, but the flyover will be tied in with a Marine color guard presenting the colors during the national anthem (which is hopefully when the jets will fly over) and Marines recruiting at the game.

Apparently, Vena had to call in a number of favors with a lot of connections he has and has had to go through a lot of paperwork. It's just something cool for the student body and the community and it all hinges on the jets not being diverted and the weather holding up.

If you're going to the game, enjoy, it should be something to see.

Favors, connections, cool!!!!!

No. No. No!

THAT WOULD BE ILLEGAL!
See my other coomment. They MUST get so many hours in to fly.

They had a flyover last year at graduation - four fighter jets and a helicopter.

With all the paperwork and the involvement of the US government and military, I doubt there is anything illegal going on.

As for favors and connections, that's just what I heard when talking with Vena this morning.

Too bad Vena never used any of his favors and connections while he was at FCHS to have a flyover happen there.

Since this is the second one he's orchestrated at WHS in a matter of months, I wonder how many favors he has left to call in from his connections. Puzzled

I'm sure it will be beautiful and very emotional.
Thank you to all of our troups and God Bless. Smiling

Relax, you patriots, it's assuredly an enroute flyover in conjunction with a training mission. Good heavens people, I can remember when the sight of a fighter streaking over a stadium immediately following the national anthem would evoke pride, joy, and a good-sized lump in the throat. Are you sure this is Georgia and not Massachusetts? Anyplace else around here this would evoke cheers. But Fayette County? Only groans of liberal disgust. Bow your heads in shame.

All who complain about military fly overs are not liberals. All who waste taxpayer's money are not conservatives. Each political party has some strange eggs (Haggard, Cunningham, Foley, Craig). It blows me away when conservatives try to draw this line in the sand and place themselves as the only ones on the patriotic side. I am very much a democrat. I am very much a patriot. I get excited for flyovers whether I'm in the plane or in the crowd. These missions are always approved and accomplish valid training. And finally, sir or maam, I will match John Kerry's service against that of George W., Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, or Tommy Thompson any day of the week. What army would we have had if we counted on your Limbaughs and Hannities to serve? Not much of one, ehh?

Who is paying for this??

Never mind I'll call gov. waste, abuse, and fraud hotline and find out for myself.

Call'em and find out. You act like the fighters/fighter pilots never need to fly unless they are on an actual run. Frankly, I'm glad you aren't in charge.

Only someone who has no concept of patriotism and community support would ask such a question. The answers were right in front of you.

1- Several families had servicemembers serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other 3rd World locations (or worse). Some of those servicemembers have not come home or may not.
2- The community asked for a little support from the military for those families.
3- The military agreed. It's a small gesture to thank them for giving up parts of their families in support of this country of ours.
4- There is definite training value tied in with this. But then, you wouldn't understand it.

Perhaps you should move to San Francisco and join up with Angela Coyote, who wouldn't allow Marines to do a silent Honor Guard demonstration for a recruiting commercial because she didn't know what it was about but "didn't want Marines marching in the streets." Yet they still held Fleet Week there, in spite of the disrespect demonstrated by the liberals there.

Our military does more for us behind the scenes than you will ever know. I speak from over 36.5 years of service to this country. How much have you given the country, that was not in your own self-interest?

Any airman would know this.
They are making a simulated location and bomb run as a practice exercise. We used to get to fly home sometimes on a bombing run!
Why not do the school a favor at the same time?

But I live for the fight game and as such I have an instinct to score at times. Nitpicker, I must say cyclist scored an Ippon. This is a blow so devestating that the opponent does not even have the opportunity for a comeback. It is a match-ending blow; coup de gras. finnito. Ovah; fat lady singin. know what I mean?

It appears that she has joined a local holy-roller evangelical snake handling poison drinking hot stove lifting tongue speaking shouting holier than thou group!
Imagine that in our Washington government trying to deal with China, Japan, Iran, Iraq, Russia, India, and others?

"a local holy-roller evangelical snake handling group"

Is that where you've been? Puzzled I'd want to forget that experience, too.

Yes, I visited them all--actually they did that all in one church in the mountains between Blairsville and North Carolina!
I never did understand the tongues spoken--everyone seemed to have a different language; the old pot-bellied stove was red-hot when the preacher reached around it, lifted it up and sat it back down---quickly; the snakes looked more like defanged rattler-pretenders---doped up, to me. Never even wanted to bite anyone;
I did understand the plate passing, however, three times--with counting in between.
Would you be interested in buying Ms. Bynum's four million dollar homes in Waycross? She forgot to pay the taxes! Didn't think they had to pay property taxes!

I've been watching. I think I'll stay away from that fray. Retirement in 2 to 3 years? By then, the Friendly Aviation Association will change the retirement age to 65 for everyone in the "wheelhouse". You can stay longer!!!

Before I retire in two or three years, I hope to have the opportunity to find out where you live, share a cup of coffee or tea with you, and conveniently schedule some training to pass directly over your home, for purely military essential training. This will most likely come very near the end of my flying career, as it most likely won't make my bosses happy. But if there is any way I can make this happen, I WILL; FOR YOU! MY F A V O R I T E !!!!!!!
