Southside Aikido Club returns to Fayette CountyThe Southside Aikido Club is back in Fayette County after a ten-year absence. The club operated in Fayetteville from 1992 to 1996, but was disbanded after the Chief Instructor was transferred with his full time job and had to relocate. The club is now meeting at the Kedron Recreation Center in Peachtree City. Fayette County sweeps Starr's MillThe Fayette County Lady Tigers took a 31-12 halftime lead and made it 55-15 by the end of their game against Starr's Mill. Tessah Holt led Fayette County with 14 points while Chasity Welch added nine points. Mercy boys defeat Whitewater for first time, 61-53; Whitewater girls down Mercy 40-32The Whitewater Wildcats, Fayette County Tigers and Starr’s Mill Panthers consistently vie for the title of the top cat in town. Outback Steakhouse All-Region 2-AAAA football team annnouncedThe Region 2-AAAA football coaches and the local media met Thursday morning at Outback Steakhouse in Peachtree City to select the 2007 Outback Steakhouse all-region football team. The first- and second-team selections are below. New region realignments announced by GHSAThe new region alignments are out and all of the local teams are grouped together. Fayette County, McIntosh, Northgate, Sandy Creek, Starr’s Mill and Whitewater are all part of Region 5, sub region A. In the other sub-region are Alexander, Banneker, Douglas County, Lithia Springs, Mays, Tri-Cities and Villa Rica. 6-8 Cardinals win divisionThe Peachtree City Little League 6-8 Cardinals won the PTC Fall Classic tournament in a hotly contested game. The Junior Minor Gold division Cardinals sealed the championship with a 15-14 victory after retiring the side in order in the bottom of the last inning. Starr’s Mill’s Jessica Lange recently comitted to play tennis at Tulane University in New Orleans. It will be the school’s first team since Hurricane Katrina hit. Basketball teams tangle on Tuesday nightThe basketball season may have just started but it is never too early for old rivals to face off. Strong swimmer swimming stronger after weight trainingPeachtree City resident David Miller, 67, returned to competitive swimming two years ago after a break of almost 43 years. Swimming in meets all over the state and southeast with the Southside Seals, he found great results almost immediately, but he knew he could get better and he wanted to get stronger. ‘98 Girls Lazers Academy bring home the double12 Boys and Girls Lazers teams participated in the Nike Triumph Cup on November 17 and 18. The club brought home two championships in the U10 Girls divisions and a second place in the U14 Girls Division. McIntosh wrestling team starts 3-0The McIntosh wrestling team kicked-off the 2007-08 season by sweeping all three opponents in a Quad meet at McIntosh on Tuesday night. In the opening match the Chiefs beat Troup 59 to 18 and then handily took care of Riverdale with a 60 to 24 win. In the night cap McIntosh beat a tough Lovejoy squad 48 to 29. Fayette County sweeps McIntosh in basketballNothing seems to faze Noel Johnson on his home away from home, the basketball court, not even playing in front of one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time. Baseball team helps decorate Southwest Christian CareFor the fourth year the Whitewater High School baseball program and fellow students have decorated the Southwest Christian Care Facility and Hospice for Christmas. Basketball season starts for local teamsThe Fayette County boys (2-1) placed third in the Arrowhead Tournament over Thanksgiving break. The Tigers opened up with a 75-61 win over Clarke Central. Noel Johnson led the team in scoring with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Cody Simmons added 17, Maurice Dorsey chipped in 13 and Terrence Turner scored 13 points and pulled in 15 rebounds. Pioneers send three runners to national championshipsThe 2007 USATF Junior Olympics Region III XC Championships were recently held at Clinton Preserve Farm in Douglas County. Tech's Gardner, a Sandy Creek alum, named to first-team All-ACCGeorgia Tech junior offensive tackle, Andrew Gardner, was named to the first-team All-ACC team on Monday. Gardner, an honorable mention selection last season, was a standout on the Georgia Tech offensive line in 2007. Whitewater edged out by Thomas County Central, 35-28The Whitewater Wildcats made a valiant fourth quarter comeback against undefeated Thomas County Central, but the Yellow Jackets held off Whitewater to pull out a 35-28 victory. Dream season ends for Fayette in final minute, 28-24The Fayette County Tigers fell behind Bainbridge 7-0 in the first quarter, as the Bearcats rapidly moved down the field on their first possession. Brandon Boykin intercepted a Bainbridge pass and Matt Daniels (27 carries, 179 yards) ran seven yards for the tying touchdown with 16 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
