Dream season ends for Fayette in final minute, 28-24Fri, 11/23/2007 - 10:31pm
By: Michael Boylan
The Fayette County Tigers fell behind Bainbridge 7-0 in the first quarter, as the Bearcats rapidly moved down the field on their first possession. Brandon Boykin intercepted a Bainbridge pass and Matt Daniels (27 carries, 179 yards) ran seven yards for the tying touchdown with 16 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The Tigers got a 22 yard field goal from Luis Martinez and a 76 yard touchdown run by Daniels to give Fayette a 17-7 lead at the half. Bainbridge scored on the opening drive of the second half on a nine yard quarterback keeper and the Tigers answered with a huge 50 yard pass play from Boykin to Barack Little, followed by a nine yard touchdown run from Tim Pettaway. The Bearcats scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, one less than three minutes in and one with 37 seconds remaining. Their winning drive started when a snap for a Tiger punt was fumbled. Bainbridge had the ball bounce their way twice on the drive, once when a fumble was recovered for a critical first down and again when the winning pass was tipped into the receiver's hands. Coach Tommy Webb praised the play of both his team and Bainbridge. "The football gods just weren't with us in those final eight minutes," he said, adding that it had been a great year for his team. login to post comments |
