The children, parents, and faculty of Peachtree City Elementary School are making a list and checking it twice as they prepare for the 11th annual Jingle Bell Trail set for Saturday, Dec. 8. Last year, it drew more than 1,000 runners and generated nearly $9,000, which helped purchase new classroom computers.

Race organizers expect more than 800 kids and adults to come to the school, strap jingle bells on their shoes, and then dash down the city’s famous golf cart paths in either the certified 5-Kilometer run or the more leisurely 1-mile run/walk.

This event is designed to boost community spirit, promote wellness, and raise money to support our school improvement focus for the students who attend Peachtree City Elementary School. Beverly Kiel, one of the P.E. teachers at Peachtree City, said, “Students participate in our school running club to get ready for the Jingle Bell Trail and look forward to this fun holiday event each year.”

Applications to enter the Jingle Bell Trail are available in the school’s front office, online at www.pces.org and will be distributed soon at locations throughout Fayette County.

At this time, the entry fee is $20. Applications will be accepted until the morning of the race, although T-shirts are not guaranteed for race day entries.

The top three male and female winners in each age bracket of the fun run will receive special awards. All participants will receive a distinctive 2006 race shirt. Runners and walkers also will enjoy free post-race refreshments, including fresh fruit and water, and the chance to win one of many great door prizes.

The 5-K run will begin in front of the school at 9 a.m., while the 1-mile walk/run will start 10 minutes later. Participants are urged to arrive at the school, located at 201 Wisdom Road, at least 45 minutes early to allow time to park, warm up, and lace on jingle bells!
