The SouthSide Pioneers Track & Field Club began its first indoor track and field season at the 2008 Inaugural Indoor Track & Field Meet at the University of Florida in Gainsville, Fl., last weekend, sponsored by the Gainesville Sports Commission.

McIntosh girls win, boys lose against Creekside

A winner in regulation? Nope.

A winner after the first overtime? Not a chance.

In what could be easily viewed as an instant classic, the Creekside Seminoles defeated the McIntosh Chiefs 83-80 in a double-overtime contest between two Region 2-AAAA teams Friday night in Peachtree City.

The McIntosh Chiefs are on the search for a new head football coach.

Dwight Jones has resigned as McIntosh’s head football coach to take the same position at Jones County High School. He was expected to turn in a letter of resignation either Thursday or Friday, according to McIntosh athletics director Steve Cole.

Starr's Mill defends county swimming title

Starr’s Mill is the county champions of swimming once again. The Starr’s Mill boys placed third, while the Lady Panthers took first, good enough for a first place overall finish. McIntosh’s boys were first and the girls placed second, while Whitewater’s boys placed second and the Whitewater girls took third, putting Whitewater at third overall. McIntosh was 34 points away from defending county champion Starr’s Mill for the overall title.

H.S. golfers can meet college coaches Saturday

High school age golfers from around metro Atlanta and north Georgia will have an opportunity to meet and learn from some of the state’s top college golf coaches and administrators during the 14th Annual College Day presented by Atlanta Junior Golf, this Saturday, February 2 at Druid Hills Golf Club, beginning at 9 a.m.

I sat in the living room of my cousin Lisa’s apartment last year watching the AFC Championship game between the Patriots and Colts with family members I hadn’t seen in years. We ate this great chicken pot pie and had a few beers, celebrating and hooting and hollering as the Patriots ran up an 18 point lead over Peyton Manning and his boys.

Fayette County boys and girls fall to Westlake again

Despite 30 points from Brandon Boykin and 20 points from Noel Johnson, the Fayette County Tigers once again came up short against the Westlake Lions, 64-59. Outside of Boykin and Johnson, no Fayette County player scored more than three points in the loss. Boykin added eight rebounds and five steals, while Johnson added 11 rebounds.

Fayette County sweeps Woodward Academy

Fayette County’s boys picked up another region win on Tuesday by defeating the Woodward Academy War Eagles 65-49. Noel Johnson led all scorers with 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Brandon Boykin chipped in 12 points, five rebounds and five steals and Darron Price and Cuincy Carruthers each added nine points.

McIntosh wrestlers beat another top 10 team

For the second time this month the McIntosh Wrestlers beat a team ranked in the Top 10. In a quad meet at Stockbridge High the Chiefs beat perennial power Stockbridge 36 to 33.

16-18 year old baseball sign-ups

Registrations for 16, 17 and 18 year old Big League Baseball will be taken through March 7. Players in the following counties may register: Butts, Carroll, Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, south Fulton, Haralson, Heard, Henry, Lamar, Meriwether, Pike, Spalding, Troup, and Upson.

Arlington equestrian team wins meet

Arlington Christian School’s Equestrian Team competed Jan. 5 in Alpharetta at In Your Dreams Farm.

ACS competed in two jumping courses and in hunter flat and dressage. The team won first place in Jumping Course II, and received an “Overall Champion” designation. Other schools in competition were Chattahoochee High, Kings Ridge Christian and Milton High School.

East Coweta and Northgate fall to region foes

East Coweta’s boys and girls teams both got swept by Region 4-AAAAA rival Tri-Cities.
The Tri-Cities boys defeated the Indians 62-59, and the Tri-Cities girls downed the Lady Indians 60-51.
