The most remarkable season in the history of the Fayette County Lady Tigers has come to a disappointing end.

Now his time has come.

Griffin was officially hired Tuesday as McIntosh’s new head football coach, taking over for Dwight Jones, who resigned in January to take the same position at Jones County after going 2-18 in his two seasons at McIntosh.

Fayette boys and girls play in final four games tomorrow

No matter how the games play out on Wednesday, two of the top four boys and girls basketball teams in the state will come from Region 2-AAAA and two of those teams will be Fayette County. The Tigers and Lady Tigers punched their tickets to the Class AAAA Final Four with two nail-biting wins at Fort Valley State on Saturday. It is the first time in school history that either team has made the state semi-finals.

It was a historic night in Fayetteville Friday night, when the Whitewater Lady Wildcats played their first-ever varsity lacrosse match at Wildcat Stadium.

Baseball teams start season with high points, big wins

Starr’s Mill went 2-1 in the Effingham tournament over the weekend to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Panthers beat Statesboro 5-4, fell to Camden County 9-0 and defeated Effingham County 19-5. Miles Jaye drove in two runs against Statesboro, while Drew Johnson earned the win on the mound. The Panthers allowed 11 walks and only got two hits in the loss to Camden, ranked ninth in Class AAAAA, but bounced back with a much better performance against Effingham County, ranked ninth in Class AAAA. Ed Cook got the win and drove in two runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate, while Jeff Stock went 2-for-3 with five RBIs, Bryan Hasse went 2-for-4 with four runs scored and David Norman went 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Starrs Mill’s Mary Chaudoin’s high school volleyball career concluded this past November by again being chosen to the Georgia All-State first team and being selected to play in the state “Senior All Star” game. The awards continued at the All-Star match when she announced as the State 4AAA Player of the Year.
