Local tennis teams could meet in quarterfinals with second round winsMcIntosh and Starr’s Mill boys tennis teams stormed their way to the second round of the AAAA state playoffs. The Chiefs beat Stockbridge 5-0 and the Panthers shutout Dutchtown by the same score. The second round will be played today with McIntosh hosting Ware County and Starr’s Mill playing at Greenbrier. Should the two local teams win they will face off on May 6. McIntosh-Pope rematch one of three playoff games for local lacrosse teamsThe McIntosh boys lacrosse team finished the regular season ranked ninth in the state, undefeated in their region for the second consecutive year, with seven players receiving some form of All- State recognition, outscoring their opponents on the season 192 goals to 100 given, all while perhaps playing the toughest schedule in the state. Starr's Mill defeats Northgate 9-0, earns No. 2 seed from regionThe Starr’s Mill Panthers accomplished one of their goals with a 9-0 victory Monday over Region 2-AAAA rival Northgate in Newnan — sealing the No. 2 seed from the region and, thus, earning a home playoff series in the first round of the state playoffs. PTC U-12 Shiver win the Coweta/Fayette ChallengeTeam Shiver won four games in a row on Saturday, April 19 to capture the Coweta/Fayette Challenege tournament championship held at Whitlock Fields in Newnan, Ga. Bulger signs with Georgia TechKaity Bulger a senior at Landmark Christian School, and resident of Peachtree City has signed a scholarship to run Cross Country and Track for Georgia Tech. Bulger lettered all four years at Landmark on the Varsity Cross Country and Track teams. She currently holds the record as the Individual State Champion in both the 800 meter and the Pole-Vault. She holds the Landmark school record for the 5K, 1600m, 3200m, and 800m and is the 2008 region champion in the 3200 meter, 1600 meter, pole-vault, four-by-one and four by four events. Lady Chiefs first to make AAAA soccer quarterfinalsIt took almost 11 minutes for McIntosh’s varsity girls soccer team to score their first goal on Monday afternoon, but the win over Thomas County Central was never in doubt. The entire first half was played in the Lady Yellow Jackets half of the field and it was obvious McIntosh would break through eventually and score a lot of goals. Tyrone's Boone helps Browns Mill team win softball tournamentOn Saturday, Apr. 19, the Browns Mill Lady Jackets' 16 & under(Gold) fastpitch travel softball team out of Lithonia, Georgia, came in 1st place (for the 2nd time in 2008) at the ISA DugOut Classic held in Covington Georgia. New summer teen program being offeredA new summer activity for teenage boys 14 – 18 years old is in the planning stages – Big League Boys Softball. Boys Softball has become an increasingly popular tournament sport and is included in many high school programs across the country. Chase Penland gets his ringWhitewater wrestler Chase Penland won a state title this year and was presented with the ring on Friday morning. McIntosh's Patrick Michel signs with Georgia College and State UniversityPatrick Michel, a senior at McIntosh High School and a member of the varsity basketball team, signed a letter of intent to attend and play basketball for Georgia College and State University. Previews for the second round of the state soccer playoffsMonday, Apr. 28, 2008 McIntosh Lady Chiefs (13-3-1) vs. Thomas County Central Lady Yellow Jackets (12-4) Panthers second to Woodward in region golf tournamentThe region 2-AAAA golf team title was won by Woodward Academy with a score of 310. Starr’s Mill finished second by winning a one hole playoff over Northgate High School. The second place score posted by Starr’s Mill was 318. Sandy Creek boys shock Apalachee, 2-1The Sandy Creek Patriots varsity boys soccer team advanced to the second round of the Class AAA state playoffs with a 2-1 win over Apalachee. McIntosh boys lacrosse team falls to top ranked Pope, 11-10The ninth ranked McIntosh varsity boys lacrosse team took on the top ranked Pope Greyhounds on Tuesday afternoon at Booth Middle School. The Chiefs had the Greyhounds on the ropes but lost in the final minute 11-10. Young Guns win midseason tournamentThe Tyrone 8 & Under Young Guns girls softball team won the two county midseason tournament the weekend of the 19th. A 'Grand Slam'The 9U Home Plate Chili Dogs won the Grand Slam Tournament that was held in LaGrange, Georgia on the weekend of April 18-20th. McIntosh, Whitewater and Starr's Mill victorious in first roundOne of the hottest teams entering the Class AAAA state playoffs is the McIntosh Lady Chiefs, who had won nine consecutive games before playing Northside, Warner Robins. |
