McIntosh-Pope rematch one of three playoff games for local lacrosse teamsTue, 04/29/2008 - 3:12pm

The McIntosh boys lacrosse team finished the regular season ranked ninth in the state, undefeated in their region for the second consecutive year, with seven players receiving some form of All- State recognition, outscoring their opponents on the season 192 goals to 100 given, all while perhaps playing the toughest schedule in the state. Their reward is a rematch against Pope in round one of the state playoffs. The Chiefs lost to the top-ranked Greyhounds in the final minute of play last week in perhaps the best high school lacrosse game ever played south of Atlanta. If last week’s game is any indication, this will be an exciting game that just might feature a future state champion. “Pope is a great team, well coached with a ton of seniors and tough athletes that never quit,” said McIntosh coach Mike Muetzel. “But we love our kids, and we love our chances at home. This is the best McIntosh team in our brief history, and the kids are playing their best lacrosse of the season. Our strength is the number of different kids we have on this team that can contribute and win big games.” Gates will open at 5:15 p.m. for the 6 p.m. game Wednesday at McIntosh Stadium, and promises to be an electric environment featuring some great high school lacrosse. The winner of this game will take on the winner of St. Pius X and Etowah on Saturday. McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs opened the playoffs last night with a game at Walton. The winner of this game will take on the winner of Lassiter and St. Pius X on Friday. login to post comments |
