An afternoon at Autrey'sBy MICHAEL BOYLAN When summer time hits and the high school ball fields are empty, the sports pages need to be filled. We receive news of little league baseball teams, soccer teams, roller hockey teams, swimmers, golfers, drivers of all ages and track athletes. In addition to all of these stories, my colleague Kevin Wandra and I have started a summer tradition of challenging each other to sporting activities around the county and seeing how we stack up. Last year, we went miniature golfing at DixieLand Fun Park. I won the first course and Kevin won the second, also eking out a one-stroke overall win. 2008 All-Citizen boys soccer team• Player of the year - Kyle Adams - Whitewater - Adams, who will play for Wake Forest University in the fall, was the Region 2-AAAA player of the year and the DiVarsity Student-Athlete of the Year. He scored five goals and recorded nine assists as a defender and made the first-team all-region team and the Class AAAA all-star team. 2008 All-Citizen girls soccer team• Player of the year - Erin Emerson - Whitewater - Although she dazzled us with her speed as a freshman, assisting Whitewater to a state soccer title, Emerson excelled in her sophomore season with 27 goals and three assists. She is a tenacious player and extremely fun to watch. 2008 All-Citizen baseball team• Player of the Year - Jake Tanis (SS) - McIntosh - Tanis had this award wrapped up halfway through the season.
