There are two Golden Rules. The first one that we all learned; Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Our moms taught us this and, like all parents, worked hard to demonstrate that as we grew up. The second one is one that we often see demonstrated in the public arena; He who has the gold, rules. As a public figure, you don't get any points if you obey the first one, but you certainly lose points if you demonstrate the second one.

I don't know why Sheriff Johnson backed Hannah at the last minute, but he did. I can only guess at Hannah's reasons for his particular management style. Both should be ashamed. Hannah could have corrected mistakes and never been thought of as weak. Now, the strength he wanted to project will always remain just out of reach.

Capt. Babb has finally done what he should have done when he knew he had lost. There is often no quarter given in these types of things, to expect it in this instance was horribly naive. He will do well with the APB. It's a struggling miasma that will profit from his many years of experience. He just needs to be more aware of his surroundings than he was in Fayette County. He leaves battered but unbowed. We wish him all the best.

As for Fayette County; it cannot be policed as it has been in the past. You can read any edition of this paper to see that the criminals and predators are moving furniture and relatives into the henhouse. We have discord, division and possible malfeasance in the Sheriff's Office. We have senior Fayetteville police officers parading their privates and forcing their lust on women in public businesses. The senior officers have put in place an atmosphere of acceptance of their misconduct by junior officers that allowed it to go unchecked. The two that looked the other way should be fired, as well. Their job is to to never look the other way. We are watching the creation of the perfect storm that is going to leave the citizens of Fayette County in the dark.

Captain Babb,

Good luck in your travels, and may you be a true asset to APD. Its a total shame that you are gone, however no one can blame you for leaving the S.O. You were a true mentor to many deputies, and a true cops cop. Continue to be the man that you are, we will all be judged by our maker when the time comes. To the command staff at the S.O. you may never understand the loss you have just had happen because you are too wrapped up in your own agenda, and not the agenda of the citizens of Fayette County. That too will be rectified in about 3 years......

and will be greatly missed. Shame, shame on you Hannah. Nothing worse than a sore winner. You have no class whatsoever, but Babb does.

New broom sweeps clean. Inexperienced politicians know that they are inexperienced and those that have worked around them for years really know it. Therefore the new guy has to weed out anyone or anything that stands in the way of getting reelected.

Sad that this happens in law enforcement to a good person like Barry, but he knew it would happen when he signed up to run.

He'll get a few years more on his retirement pension in Atlanta and then come back and run against Hannah and could win.

We'll miss his experience. I have noticed some changes from certion deputies. Fayette County has always had friendly, but professional men & women serving the community..

but when you have a few that will not even shake you hand or listen before going to defcon 4, then we know things will get worse under this new sheriff.

Capt. Babb (Hannah may no longer have called him that but I did) is a very good man. He is sincere and fair towards other people. All people. That's important in high ranking law officials who supervise the lawmen and women who are dealing with our kids and our families.
The "back story" is that Babb is not the only one we are going to lose with Hannah he's just the highest profiled. Hannah has put a Captain Woodie in charge of everyone and he is said to be mean-spirited and not well liked by the officers. Why would you replace Captain Babb with someone like that?
To Captain Babb: I've seen your boys and your family and I've seen the way you are when you are with them. STAY SAFE IN ATLANTA UNTIL WE CAN BRING YOU BACK!

Wayne Hannah should be ashamed of himself. I know Barry personally and I can honestly say that he is one of the best people I know. Randall Johnson should have been as good as his word to not support any of the candidates from the department, but no, at the last minute he throws his hat in Hannah's ring...what a joke. So to conclude...Randall Johnson should be ashamed too! Good luck Barry, you have my vote the next time around too! Vote Barry Babb Sheriff!!!

What a shame, but you knew it would happen as he was humiliated by the current department. I proudly displayed a Babb sign on my front yard during the campaign; I wish you the best, Fayette County is losing a good one!

A terrible deed was done by our new sheriff. A definite black mark on his administration and leadership. What a shame.

Press on Barry... Life's best to ya.

Fayette County's loss, Atlanta's gain. What a shame, we need him and his experience here.
Have you ever thought that maybe the former sheriff had something to do with this? He lost a lot of respect from many citizens in that election, including me.
Here in Fayette County (and Fayetteville) don't you know...you're not supposed to run against the "chosen one." Hopefully one day this will change.
My humble opinion.

I wish only the best to Barry Babb and his family.

After reassignment and demotion, it was only a matter of time. I, too, wish him all the best.

It's a shame we can't hang on to our most experienced people. Crime is on the rise it seems like we need more experience not less.
