PTC tourism director resignsFri, 02/26/2010 - 12:51pm
By: John Munford
The executive director of the Peachtree City Tourism Association has resigned, the association announced Friday morning. Lauren Yawn, who has served in the position since 2005, has decided to pursue other opportunities, according to the news release submitted by the association. Tourism Association Chairman Bill Bexley said the association would immediately begin a search to fill the executive director position. “On behalf of the tourism board and staff I want to thank Lauren for her many contributions,” Bexley said. “We have enjoyed working with her and wish her well in future endeavors.” Yawn could not be reached for comment by press time Friday. The Tourism Association serves as the marketing arm for the city, charged with attracting visitors to the community. The association is funded by the city’s hotel-motel tax revenues and it operates the city’s visitor’s center off Ga. Highway 54 West adjacent to the tennis center. The association was formed in 2003 largely to assume operations of the city’s tennis center and amphitheater which previously were operated by the Development Authority of Peachtree City. The tourism association turned management of both venues back to the city in 2009. Currently the amphitheater is operated as part of the recreation department and the city has entered a contract with Canongate to operate the tennis center.
