Panthers second to Woodward in region golf tournamentMon, 04/28/2008 - 7:57am

The region 2-AAAA golf team title was won by Woodward Academy with a score of 310. Starr’s Mill finished second by winning a one hole playoff over Northgate High School. The second place score posted by Starr’s Mill was 318. Whitewater’s Nick Ward was the low medalist in the tournament. He shot a round of two over par 74 to win the region championship for the second consecutive year. As the region’s medalist, Ward will compete in the state tournament on May 5 in Augusta. Three players shot rounds of 75 to finish one shot short of Ward - Peter Cummings of Starr’s Mill, Zac Crow of Northgate, and John Edge of Woodward. The top two team finishers, Woodward Academy and Starr’s Mill, will advance to the state tournament to be held on May 5 at Bartram Trail Golf Club in Augusta. Other participants in the region tournament for Starr’s Mill were Travis Snyder and Brandon Hurst who posted identical scores of 80, Andrew Garner who shot a round of 83, Nick Burns with a round of 84, and Matt Newcome carded a score of 86 for the day. Jordan Smith of Mcintosh posted an excellent score of 76, and his team finished in fourth place with a total score of 329. Patrick Steck and Mitch Miller also played well, shooting rounds of 81 and 84, respectively. login to post comments |
