Last weekend was a productive one for many local baseball teams.

Starr’s Mill split two games; it lost to Hardaway 7-5 Saturday and defeated Region 2-AAAA rival Banneker 12-2 Friday.

The McIntosh Lady Chiefs lacrosse team recently picked up two more wins, beating East Coweta 21-5 and Newnan 16-8.

In the win over East Coweta, Kelly Polo had seven goals, while Taylor Lugash added six and Rachel Weissman also scored multiple times. Scoring one goal in the match were Christen Downing, Jessye Ebbinghouse, Kristen Farren, Audrey Dowis, Lindsey Beard and Emily Holloman. Lugash, Polo and Dowis each had two assists.

McIntosh Chiefs win state hockey championship

McIntosh’s hockey team took on Brookwood in the state championship game last Sunday and won 4-2. The Chiefs trailed the Broncos early but mounted their comeback starting halfway through the second period.

Landmark baseball stays hot, others cool off

No team was hotter last week than Landmark Christian School’s War Eagles. Landmark (6-1) picked up three straight double-digit wins last week and started this week with a 7-0 win over Fellowship Christian. Last Tuesday, the War Eagles beat Bremen 10-4 and followed it with a 13-3 win over Whitefield Academy. Against Our Lady of Mercy on Thursday, the War Eagles started the game with an inside the park home run and followed it with back-to-back homers on their way to 10 runs in the first inning and a mercy-rule win over the Bobcats.

Teams compete in track meets at Landmark, Georgia Tech

Our Lady of Mercy won the Landmark Christian School Invitational, while Landmark placed second and Starr’s Mill placed third.

McIntosh tops Whitewater on diamond, 5-2

All region games are significant and when they come against local rivals the games tend to mean just a little more.

McIntosh picked up their first region win of the season with a 5-2 win over Whitewater on Monday evening. The Chiefs struck early with two runs off of four hits in the first inning. Jake Tanis and Ben Barter drove in the runs with singles.

The Starr’s Mill Panthers and East Coweta Indians are two teams that have been struggling; Starr’s Mill had lost three straight games and East Coweta had lost five straight entering their non-region game Wednesday in Sharpsburg.

Patriots stay perfect, Whitewater keeps hitting

Sandy Creek’s baseball team is, to quote the pithy sportscasters on ESPN, en fuego.

The Patriots (7-0) defeated East Coweta 7-6 on Monday in a come-from-behind victory. Trailing 6-3 and down to their last out in the bottom of the seventh, Avery Anderson made it to first on a throwing error. Chris Triplett got on base with a walk and Braxton Lane made it on base after a strikeout, reaching on a wild pitch to load the bases. Arthur Owens drew a walk to bring in the fourth run and Duncan Midkiff slammed a bases-clearing double to secure the win and keep the young season perfect for Sandy Creek. Anderson, pitching in relief, was the winning pitcher. Craig Carroll had two hits for Sandy Creek in the win and Hunter Parrott drove in a run.

McIntosh’s boys and girls soccer teams hosted Starr’s Mill on Monday night, and the games were as good as always. Whenever these two teams meet, fans can always expect an exciting game and Monday’s matches were no exception. The play was fast and physical and everything one could hope for in an early season meeting between these two rivals.

McIntosh lacrosse shuts out East Coweta 15-0

The McIntosh boys lacrosse team caught a breath in their difficult early schedule cruising by the first year program East Coweta high school team 15 – 0 Monday night. McIntosh scored in the first minute of play and never looked back, leading 11-0 at the half.

Whenever these two teams meet, fans can always expect an exciting game and tonight's matches were no exception.

The girls played first and were deadlocked at 0-0 at the half. With just under 20 minutes to go, Starr's Mill's Katrina Frost scored off of a direct kick. The defense made the goal stand up and Starr's Mill captured the win.

What a run it was.

The greatest season in team history for the Fayette County Tigers concluded Friday with a 69-63 loss to the Columbia Eagles in the Class AAAA state championship game at the Gwinnett Arena.
