FCYBA team qualifies for YBOA National ChampionshipThe 15U South Metro Mustangs, one of the Advanced Program League teams under the direction of the Fayette County Youth Basketball Association, has qualified to participate in the YBOA National Championship. The team recently competed in the YBOA Division II State Championship and finished 3rd in the State. The team will now move on to the National Championship to be held in Orlando later this month. Roller hockey players from PTC to represent GeorgiaTwenty-two players from the Peachtree City Roller Hockey Association will represent the city on various State Teams at the 4th State Wars tournament to be held in Cincinnati, Ohio this summer. U-10 soccer champsTeam Reading is the Under 10 boys soccer champions for the spring season of Peachtree City Youth Soccer. Eagles edge Renegades for PTC Little League tournament titleThe Eagles are Peachtree City Little League’s Majors American Tournament Champions, they are pictured along with the Runner-up, the Renegades. 6U Dodgers win USSSA tournamentThe 6-under Fayette County Dodgers played in the USSSA baseball tournament in Newnan this weekend. The Dodgers played the Coweta County Cubs (who were undefeated during the regular season) on Sunday June 8 for the championship. The Dodgers won the 2008 USSSA tournament championship game by a score of 21-13. Starr's Mill grad Lewis helps power Bulldogs to College World SeriesJoey Lewis, a Starr’s Mill graduate and designated hitter for the University of Georgia Bulldogs, was 1-for-2 with a two run home run in the decisive third game against the NC State Wolfpack in last weekend’s super regionals. Lewis also homered in the first game against NC State and drove in a run in the second game, giving him five RBIs for the series. Former Starr's Mill star Brian Fletcher accepts invite to USA Baseball's National Team TrialsWhat an offseason its has been for former Starr’s Mill baseball standout Brian Fletcher. Fletcher, a freshman outfielder at Auburn, recently accepted an invitation to attend USA Baseball's 2008 National Team Trials. Inline hockey helps ice hockey playersRecently an article written by Scott Hill was printed in the USA Hockey magazine with information taken from the National Inline Hockey Association Web site on how playing Inline/Roller Hockey is great for those that play ice hockey. Allied Healthcare is a healthcare and wellness center that targets the running and triathlon community of Fayette County. Fayette County brings back youth track programAs the saying goes, “Good things come to those that wait.” That could certainly apply to the Fayette County Parks and Recreation Youth Track & Field Program. After nine years of a hiatus with no youth track and field program, earlier this year the organization embarked upon changing that record. The new program was jumpstarted after over 85 youth between the ages of 5 – 14 years old registered in February 2008. Three locals drafted in MLB 2008 draftWith the 328th pick overall, Sandy Creek graduate Blake Brewer was selected by the Florida Marlins. Brewer is a right handed pitcher. His brother, Brent, was drafted several years ago by the Milwaukee Brewers. Former Starr's Mill standout Brian Fletcher named to Louisvile Slugger Freshman All-American teamThe accolades continue to pour in for former Starr’s Mill baseball standout Brian Fletcher. Fletcher, an outfielder at Auburn, was recently named a 2008 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American as chosen by Collegiate Baseball. McIntosh to host football campMcIntosh High School will be hosting its first annual football camp June 9-12, 2008, for any young man grades 3-8. The camp will concentrate on the basic fundamentals of the game. Topics to be covered include: quarterback play, running backs play, lineman skills and defensive back techniques. Campers will also receive instruction on other areas of the game such as weight training, proper nutrition and proper practice habits. He scored five goals and recorded nine assists as a defender and made the first-team all-region team and the Class AAAA all-star team. 2008 All-Citizen girls soccer team• Player of the year - Erin Emerson - Whitewater - Although she dazzled us with her speed as a freshman, assisting Whitewater to a state soccer title, Emerson excelled in her sophomore season with 27 goals and three assists. She is a tenacious player and extremely fun to watch. |
