The first week of the 2008 Thursday Thunder racing series took place at Atlanta Motor Speedway last week and local racers did very well.

Atlanta Motor Speedway president and Peachtree City resident Ed Clark took first ion the Roadsters race and fourth in the Masters race, while Fayetteville residents Tyler Armstrong and Jonathan Chandler took 13th and 20th, respectively, in the Pep Boys Auto Semi-Pro race.

In the Young Guns race, Peachtree City’s Garrett Smithley placed seventh overall, followed by Fayetteville’s Luke Behnke in 10th and Jake Armstrong in 13th. In the Pro race, Brook’s Billy Fulson placed second overall, while Senoia’s Tina Johnson took fourth.

Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Thursday Thunder will return this week for the second of 10 weeks of Legends, Bandolero and Thunder Roadster racing. This week will feature the Mascot Mania night where many of the major Atlanta sports mascots will race each other in a golf cart race during intermission.
