Pioneers run well at district meetTue, 06/10/2008 - 2:34pm

The SouthSide Pioneers competed at the 2008 AAU Georgia District Championships at Our of Lady of Mercy Catholic High School last weekend and did very well. Thirty nine athletes competed for the Pioneers and 17 of them placed between first and third in the meet. Those who finished in the top eight qualified for the 2008 AAU Region 3B Championship, which will take place at Our Lady of Mercy next weekend. Gold medal winners were: Matt Lethbridge, Young Men, 1,500 meter, 4:14 Young Men 4x800M Relay: Vince Brown, Jonathan Owens, Dashwa Rodgers, Jared Cooper, 8:22 Silver medal winners were: Denise Hinton, Young Women Shot Put , 10.57m Keme Barnette, Young Women Discus Throw, 23.19m Graylin Ward, Intermediate Boys High Jump, 1.82m Darius Harris, Young Men High Jump, 1.82m Bronze medal winners were: Carl Eifert, Intermediate Boys 3,000 m, 10:22 3rd: Daiyaan Epps Young Men Triple Jump 12.83m Here is a breakdown of the 4th through 8th place qualifiers: Intermediate Girls 5th Place, Alyssa Rooks, Javelin Throw, 14.70m 6th Place, Brittany Thomas Javelin Throw, 13.27m 7th Place, Alyssa Rooks Discus Throw, 20.05m 7th Place, Takkia Ross Javelin Throw, 4.47m 7th Place, 4x100M Relay: Lynsey Douglass, Jasmayne Forte, Alyssa Rooks, Kendra Newsome 55.29 8th Place, Jasmayne Forte, 100MH, 19.34 8th Place, Brittany Thomas, Shot Put, 6.66m Intermediate Boys 4th Place Najee Pace, Triple Jump, 11.12m Young Women Young Men 7th Place, Jonathan Owens, 800M, 2:05.91 7th Place, Daiyaan Epps, Long Jump, 6.08m 6th Place, 4x400M Relay: David Mathis, Dashwa Rodgers, Jonathan Owens, NOTE: This time reflects great courage on the part of this relay team because despite two injured athletes they still wanted to qualify. They will be at top performance for Region meet.
