Southside Pioneers indoor meet

The SouthSide Pioneers Track & Field Club began its first indoor track and field season at the 2008 Inaugural Indoor Track & Field Meet at the University of Florida in Gainsville, Fl., last weekend, sponsored by the Gainesville Sports Commission.

The Pioneers had a memorable first-time appearance with its new young men’s team composed of Daiyaan Epps (McIntosh HS), David Mathis (Sandy Creek HS), Carl McGill (Faith Academy HS), and Johnathan Ross (Sandy Creek HS). The Young Men’s 4x200 meter relay team finished with a respectable first-time fourth-place finish of 1:35.49, which was only 1.61 off of a third-place finish.

Ross finished sixth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.68 while McGill placed 12th (6.8) and Epps placed 22nd (6.97). Ross and McGill also competed in the 200-meter dash and finished with times of 23.63 and 28.72 respectively.

Epps was also one of the top 10 competitors with a 10th-place finish in the long jump (5.91m).
