East Coweta and Northgate fall to region foes

East Coweta’s boys and girls teams both got swept by Region 4-AAAAA rival Tri-Cities.
The Tri-Cities boys defeated the Indians 62-59, and the Tri-Cities girls downed the Lady Indians 60-51.

It was a heartbreaking loss for the Indians, who were on the verge of pulling out their eighth victory in their last 10 games.

The Indians led 51-44 with six minutes to go, but Tri-Cities came back and went on a 10-2 run to grab a 54-53 lead. East Coweta went on tie the game with less than a minute left, but Timothy Stroud delivered the final knockout blow for the Bulldogs, a game-winning jumper with 11 seconds remaining.

East Coweta had one final opportunity to win, but it failed to get off a shot as time expired.
Alex Simpson scored 15 points, Khambrel Hugley-Brown had 11 and Casey Rosser added 10 for the Indians.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped all over the Lady Indians early, putting together a 14-0 run, from which East Coweta wouldn’t recover.

East Coweta did trim Tri-Cities’ lead to 38-29 with five minutes remaining, but that’s as close as it would get.

Christina Ezell and Areli Aguirre both scored 10 points, and LaBrittany Stokes and Yashyrrah Mulkey each had eight for the Lady Indians.
The losses dropped the Indians to 8-11 overall and 2-7 in the region and the Lady Indians to 4-12 overall and 3-5 in the region.

Northgate’s boys were defeated by a region rival, Region 2-AAAA’s Westlake, 57-32.
Second-ranked Westlake was led by Oklahoma signee Raymond Willis, who scored 14 points, and Gideon Gamble, who scored 13 points.
