Starr's Mill tops McIntosh at swim meetThu, 01/24/2008 - 10:23am

The Starr’s Mill men and women’s swim team defeated McIntosh this past Saturday at the Kedron Fieldhouse. The Panthers swept all six relays and won eight individual events. On the women’s side, seniors led the way with Megan Copeland winning both the 500 yard freestyle and the 100 yard butterfly, while Sarah Risley won the 100 yard backstroke. The underclassmen scored big as well, sophomores Alex Curtis won the 50 yard freestyle and placed second in the 500 free, Kristen Bates won the 100 yard free, and freshman Courtney Harris won the 200 yard individual medley (IM). Other ladies finishing in the top three were junior Rebecca Goodman, second in the 200 free and third in the 100 yard breastroke, freshman Ashley Shad, third in the 50 free and Hannah Wright, second in the 100 fly. Ladies on the three winning relays were: Harris, Goodman, Copeland, and Bates on the 200 medley relay, Goodman, Harris, Shad, and Bates on the 200 free relay, and Copeland, Curtis Hannah Wright, and Bates on the 400 free relay. The men were led by a pair of sophomores. David Wright won the 200 freestyle and took third in the 100 fly and Ryan Haycraft won the 100 backstroke, while placing second in the 200 freestyle. Other men scoring in the top three were: senior Drew Clasen, third in both the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke, sophomore Eric Presley, second in both the 50 and 100 freestyle, junior Brett Matthews, second in the 100 backstroke and third in the 50 free, senior Matt Boyle, second in both the 100 butterfly and the 500 free and senior Scott Houghtaling, third in the 100 freestyle. The three winning relays were Haycraft, Boyle, Matthews and Wright on the 200 medley relay, Presley, Haycraft, Houghtaling, and Matthews on the 200 free relay and freshman Mark Buck, Boyle, Presley and Wright on the 400 free relay. Freshmen Ariana Berg and Jack Beall and junior Adam Otaki led the McIntosh High School swim team with a total of six first-place event finishes. Beall captured first place in the men’s 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly, Berg took firsts in the women’s 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke and Otaki led the field in the men’s 100 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke. Senior Chris Larson and freshman David Liow turned in a one-two finish to lead the men’s 200 yard individual medley. Junior Allison Gair added a pair of second-place times in the women’s 200 yard individual medley and 100 yard breaststroke, sophomore Kaitlin Rassett added a second in the women’s 50 yard freestyle, and senior Corbin Heard finished second in the men’s 100 yard backstroke. The final score was Starr’s Mill 278 and McIntosh 240. login to post comments |
