Landmark tops Whitefield Academy, 31-13

The Landmark Christian War Eagles traveled to be the homecoming visitors for the Whitefield Wolfpack last Friday and spoiled the activities by defeating their region 5-A opponent 31-13.

Landmark's offense moved the ball up and down the field early and often while the War Eagle defense seemed to frustrate the high-powered Wolfpack offense. The War Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when junior quarterback Tanner Bryant found senior running back Walter Lenard for a lenghty touchdown pass. Lenard, starting at receiver for injured all-state receiver Jimmy Eden, led the Landmark receiving corps with six catches for 138 yards and a touchdown. Senior receiver Matt Thornton also added six catches for 90 yards with three big touchdown catches. Bryant finished the game with 93 yards on the ground to go along with 231 yards passing and four touchdowns.

Defensively the War Eagles allowed less than 180 yards of total offense by the Wolfpack on the night. Junior linebacker Andrew Glaize tallied 12 total tackles and one fumble recovery while his fellow linebacker, senior Luke Griffith, racked up 13 total tackles. Senior safety Michael Leonard and junior defensive back Cole Abernathy both had interceptions, while the War Eagle defensive line of Brock Pollard, Vinnie Hutcherson, and Josh Gebhardt combined for 19 total tackles, four sacks, and three tackles for loss.

The War Eagles look to continue their five year region unbeaten streak against the undefeated Fellowship Christian Paladians, ranked sixth in the state, this Friday night at 7:30 in Fairburn. Come out and support the War Eagles. All fans are asked to wear gold.
