Basmati: A Tale of Two Orchestras

Basmati's picture

Several years ago Booth Middle School formed a student orchestra. It was an immediate success, due in no small part to the frenetic, almost manic orchestra teacher. She pushed her students hard and she pushed them hard daily. But that hard work paid off and parents were treated to some spectacular concerts (listening to 30+ 2nd year violins, violas and basses thunder gleefully through Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” was nothing short of incredible!).

How do we get people involved?

There have been many diverse issues discussed in the forum/blog on this site. Many are silly or insignificant. Many are truly insightful.

dkinser: West Village annexation

Shortly after John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods revealed their original plans for what is being called the Connector Village, members of the Tyrone City Council expressed an interest in the plan. It is my understanding that some of them may have even approached members of Wieland’s staff advising them that if they were turned down by the Peachtree City Council, that Tyrone would consider annexing that land and allow them to build their original plan of 750 homes and a white collar commercial district, complete with recreation fields, a senior component, boardwalk along the creek, and a church site.

Sandra Hendrick: Gabrielle Hendrick - Corrections and additional details to Obituary posted on 8/10

Gabrielle “Gabby” Hendrick, 11, Newnan, went home to be with the Lord on July 24, 2006 as a result of injuries sustained in a horrific car accident. While in the sedan driven by her father, the family was struck from behind by a full size SUV that was driving at an excessive rate of speed on Interstate 85. At the time of the impact on July 23rd, her family was on their way returning home from church and slowed to assist a motorist and a Dalmatian that was on the roadway at the time of impact. Gabrielle was taken via Lifeflight to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta until she went home to be with the Lord on July 24th. Gabrielle was born Oct. 30, 1994 in Manhassett, New York. Home Going Celebration Services were held at World Changers Church International with Minister Michael Carter officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park. The Repast meal was held at the Hendrick residence. Survivors include her parents, Eric and Sandy Hendrick, Newnan; her beloved brother, Miles Hendrick, Newnan; and grandparents, Frederic Hendrick, Lawrenceville, Elizabeth Hendrick, Newnan, and Thomas Saltibus, Cambria Heights, N. Y. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Teddy Bears be donated to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Hospital in Decatur, GA(formerly Egelstons Hospital) on behalf of Gabrielle Hendrick because Gabby was a comforter and would have wanted the children to be comforted. Everyday spent with Gabrielle was a gift because no one could have asked for a more perfect daughter than her. There is no doubt in our minds that she is dancing around the Father's throne right now, and that we will see her beautiful smiling face again someday. However, while our eyes long to see her, our arms ache to hold her, if her presence must be absent from us, there's no place we'd rather her be than safe in the Master's arms because there's no multiple skull fractures in Heaven. So until we meet again Pumpkin, see you later and know that Mommy, Daddy and Miles loves you and miss you dearly.

Spear Road Guy: PTC Annexation and Lost Logic

Spear Road Guy's picture

I don't know where McDonoughDawg and the others came up with this "if Peachtree City doesn't annex and develop the westside, we're all doomed" mentality. Then there's the second flaw in the rationale, "If not Peachtree City, then Tyrone will do it." How does anyone know this? For starters, there's a huge quarry operation between Tyrone's infrastructure and the westside property in question. It wouldn't be a smooth transition for Tyrone at all. Tyrone is just an excuse to go for the higher density, good old boy style.

can someone help me remember some of those who have left this blogging sight. I know the natural left, as well as aggressive. However, there was a more recent person who left and I can't remember who it was. Seems they had worked in Oklahoma with the pipeline, the farewell was something like "been here long enough, will be traveling on down the road and would not look back".

Spear Road Guy: Can't Believe the Blog Bully Said It!

Spear Road Guy's picture

It’s strange reading idontknow saying about former mayor Brown, “Boy, what a voice we ended up getting.” I contend that idontknow is worse than Brown ever was in our wildest dreams. Idontknow is the bona fide continuation of the infernal, internal battling in Peachtree City. Idontknow went out of his way to compare the former mayor to mass murders, war criminals, Communist dictators and people who assault law enforcement officers. How is the voice of idontknow any better for our community?

Did you know PTC has a new table tennis club? Come on out on Sunday afternoons, 1:30PM to 5PM at the Kedron field house gym. Three new tables. Right now 8 to 10 players of various skill levels. Just for fun, friends and exercise. If I beat you I'll buy you a coke.

Spear Road Guy: Public Drunkenness, Smoking, Punishment

Hey, public drunkenness is public drunkenness, whether standing on the street corner, riding a bike or driving. Being drunk in public, in and of itself, is an inherent danger, to both the drunken person and the public at-large.

afriend: Continue The Hunt

The financial district (World Trade Center and surrounding buildings) were much of my world. My work was there, also my bank, doctor, shops, etc. Much of my world ended on 9/11 and I lost six close friends and went to all too many funerals. The stench of death remained for weeks. Everyday for months I passed posters of families looking for loved ones, telling their story and last time seen. For a very long time I cowered whenever I heard a plane overhead. Recently a former neighbor relayed to me that a piece of her husband's tissue had been found and identified from the top of the Deutsche Bank (across from the WTC), 4 1/2 years later. I relocated, and here I don't think people really understand what I've been through, which is probably better. I'm not fond of sitting down and relating the gruesome story. Perhaps you cannot know how the events of one day can change a confident, fearless person into a completely different person. Who wants to hear about all those body parts? What do you say when someone tells you a story like that? I just say, "I moved here from New York." As time passes, and people seemingly think less about 9/11, that just becomes part of normal conversation. The events of this week in London stirred that memory up for many of us and made it more vivid in minds than in some time. I was brought up knowing right from wrong and I try to be a good, decent citizen and kind to everyone, but I willing support all means necessary to hunt down anyone in their attempt of terrorism and put their life to an end. I wholeheartedly support President Bush in his efforts on this. I am thankful for the work of Scoutland Yard and pray for all involved in trying to keep us all safe. Hurrican Katrina's devastation to the New Orleans area and the coastal areas of Mississippi reminded us again that life can be unpredictable. Thankfully there were storm warnings prior to the catastrophe, which saved some. Take time to be aware of your daily surroundings and any changes that occur. If seemingly suspicious for any reason, report it. Better to be safe than sorry. We live in a much different world now and probably will for a long time to come. We need to be watchful, prayerful. God bless you.
