Sex and the Peachtree City, the King and Residence

Spear Road Guy's picture

Old "King" Bob did some nice things as mayor. Even Steve Brown has said that on this web site before. Lenox is a nice guy as a person goes.

The problem I had with Lenox as mayor was his financial links with the benefactors of his government decisions. It was common knowledge in many circles that Lenox had financial dealings with Pathways (PCDC), the guys that owned the sewer system, Peachtree National Bank and the development authority boys; thus, they call it the "good old boy" system. Anybody that thinks there hasn't been a great deal of cronyism over the near five decades of Peachtree City's existence is staying at home watching too much Sex and the City on the TV.

Now I've seen Lenox seriously talk down to some people at city council meetings. I think even he'll tell you that he didn't accept opposing views very well. What was the name of that little old lady that ran against Lenox years back? I saw her give Lenox the fits at one council meeting. She got on to him about his financial relationship with PCDC. He tried to cut her down at the meeting, big mistake, as it turned into a public relations nighmare for him.

I get a good laugh when someone starts off a letter, blog or free speech with, "I've lived here for 30-years ..." so? I should begin all of my blogs with "I've been here for 24 years, 3 months and 14 days and let me tell you with great authority that ...".

What does giving the length of you stay really mean? You've been blind to reality for over 30 years? You're responsible for everything good that's happened in the last 30 years? Why should someone's opinion be weighted on the length of their residence?

By the way, I've lived in this city for 24 years and you'd better pay attention to what I have to say!

Do you enjoy to see what you type in print? Do you get some magical power writing line after line, a veritable cornucopia of verbosity, a Grand Canyon of wisdom (big and empty, with a lot of hot air blowing in it)?

I mean, I'm wondering, since you just continue on and on.

Please - do yourself and others on this site a favor, get a life.

And yes, I am the pot calling the kettle black, so

Here's tonight's poll:

Do you even read what Spear Road Guy writes?

Just say what ever it is you want to say. What is it? I don't know, maybe because I have only been here for 12 years 1 month and 14 days, I just don't get where you are going with this post. Bob Lenox did good and Bob Lenox did bad. Yes. Steve Brown did good and Steve Brown did bad. Yes. Harold Logsdon is doing good, and Harold Logsdon will do bad. Yes. Shall we actually start at the beginning? Joel...SO WHAT. What are you getting at?

By the way. The lady that ran against Mr. Lenox was Ms. Vivian Condiff. I think that is how she spells her last name. She runs a local property management business.

Yes. Harold Logsdon is doing good, and Harold Logsdon will do bad.

You got it backwards. We are still waiting to see him do good.

I think that Logsdon's eventual downfall is going to be attributed to the fact he doesn't want to communicate with the people, and he appears to have this overwhelming "public" desire to please the good old boys.

We were at bridge last week and the topic of discussion was, "I think we made a mistake with Logsdon." He's really having a problem forming a likable public persona the local residents can identify with, and I don't think his personality will let him do otherwise.

A few of the ladies described him as curt and unfriendly. His letter to the editor didn't help him much. Everyone was taken aback that Logsdon actually looked up the letter writer he was responding to in the city records and made comments about him based on that search. It came off a bit "big brother" and malicious.

Since you posted this elsewhere and I responded there, I will simply copy and paste over here.

How long one has lived here only tells you something if they have been active and observant. For sure.

Yep. Face to face, Lenox was decent. But you could tell he was choking down a reaction when you disagreed with him.

Yep, he was into cronism. Big time.

That is one of the things that got me down on Logsdon so quickly. Thyere is way to much similarity in personalities and base approaches.

It is like a rerun of bad B movie.

Yes. Lenox did some good things. But the negatives outweigh them.

Another thing about living here 20 years. You see these kind of Mayors, one after the other. And you tolerance limit just plain gets exceeded.

and saying that is truly stupid. The only relevant fact about being here for a long time is that you eventually realize that most mayors and councilpeople do have agendas and special interests. Another way of saying that is they are human, have friends and opinions and ideas how to make things better.

Some are hopelessly out of their element when they get elected - like Boone and Horgan, but most just muddle through without doing too much damage. The only truly dangerous ones are the ones that form alliances and make decisions ahead of time based upon a common agenda - Fayettteville Council about 15 years ago did that (remember annexation that had to be de-annexed?) and the other example is the first year or so of Brown Rapson Weed - and for a short time Tennant.

Other than that, no one has done any serious harm - just business as usual with a few annoying things, a few funny things - still we have fewer real problems than other communities.

But I know you say you're a war veteran. I think Annie's husband was a pilot around the time of the Korean war. Are you from that family. Annie McMinniman, former City Councilwoman? Also Tonot707 sounds like her daughter, Susan the lawyer. That would explain her defense of the police force since her husband, Mark Brown, works there. Just wondering.

You hit it on the head out there that is Susan Brown but her Mom is cool...

Hey, I was told once that Annie McMenamin was living in Florida the last year she was on the city council. Is that true?

Annie lived right across the street from me for years and was a legal resident of PTC until her term was over. She had thought about staying in PTC to run for Mayor, but decided to go south and retire with Mac instead.
