TonyF: A pet peeve (one of many)

TonyF's picture

I overheard a co-worker ,this morning, say to another "sorry, I lied" refering to a previous statement about which he was incorrect. This reminded me of, among many others, my second wife. She would often use the "sorry, I lied" remark whenever she was incorrect. I often pondered the use of this phrase when she was simply wrong about something. I soon realized she, like all the others, would rather be thought of as a liar than to be understood to be just plain wrong.

d.smith700: No peaches, no apples, no water!

Better than hillside fires, earthquakes, and illegal immigrants, I suppose.
Stock market computers robbing small investors, running the market up and down 10-15% at a time and with pre-knowledge as to when to buy and sell. Not helping our 401-ks either.

hutch866: Football Playoffs

hutch866's picture

I want to take this time to thank the Tiger football team for an exceptional year of football. You boys have made this one of the most exciting falls of my life. I knew my daughter was going to enjoy marching band and ya'll have enhanced the experience by a factor of ten. My hats off to you boys, and Tommy Webb, great job. You and your coaches have had these kids prepared every week and your dilligence shows at every game.

Spear Road Guy: Brown was right on impact of TDK Extension

Spear Road Guy's picture

Steve Brown kept saying if we stop TDK we could we could put a serious dent in the growth around it.

Here's the report on the TDK Lowes:

GA Red Bug: TEENS Misbehavior in PTC? Say It Ain't So.

Was reading a post discussing teens misbehaving, even in conservative and affluent, 85% Republican, PTC. How could that be?

Nitpickers: Clones similar to Rush Limbaugh!

I could list the clones here but most of you know who they are.
Limbaugh doesn't bother me. I listen to parts of his broadcast on occasion so that I will know just what damage he is doing. I worry much more about those taken in by him than about Limbaugh himself--he will never be any more than he is right now.

oldbeachbear: Just when we thought we were safe in Tyrone...

While they still have a monopoly on the vote in Tyrone, it seems the gruesome three some will vote for the very last time on something they wanted, but would ruin downtown Tyrone. 8 houses to 1 acre! Dec 20, when kids are out and most will be gone for the holidays, they are gonna give it one more try for a homerun!

Nitpickers: Teenagers and Israel

A columnist in this paper doesn't want the 17-19 year old military enlistees called "kids."
Some of our congressmen and senators want us to assume the protection of Israel whenever another country, like Iran, threatens them.

Nswygert: My house fire

June 24, 2006, 11:54 PM, we came home from a movie to discover our garage smoldering. I called 911 and a fire truck arrived, with one firefighter. OSHEA forbids one fireman to enter a dwelling alone.

tennfan1: Are we becoming less intelligent?

Sitting in my classes yesterday, I realized just how unintelligent we as Americans are becoming. I'm not referring to a lack of academic knowledge (issue as that may be) but the simple lack of common sense.

thebeaver: The "B" word

Rep. Carla Blanchard Dartez, a Democrat, acknowledged that she ended a Thursday night conversation with Hazel Boykin by saying, "Talk to you later, Buckwheat." Dartez had been thanking Boykin for driving voters to the polls.

Nitpickers: Watching bats!

Have you ever watched bats leave a bat cave at dusk?
Now bats fly by radar, not electrically generated radar, but bat radar.

d.smith700: Suicidal Iraqi Veterans

Many of our Iraqi veterans who have had their brains rattled and torn, or punctured, have such terrible symptoms of uneasiness, that they are committing suicide in numbers never experienced before. It is worse than the "agent orange" fiasco of Viet Nam, which we also didn't want to recognize as an ailment.

Sniffles: Fayette Homosexuals and You

Sniffles's picture

What are your feelings towards homosexuals?

Fayette county is a very conservative county, yet I get the distinct impression that homosexuals here are almost *gasp* tolerated here.

Doug: Whole Fools grocery store on the way to PTC !!!

COMING TO HIGHWAY 54

Mayor Logsdon and Steve Boone have come up with their own grocery store concept and Mr. McMurrain is going to build it for them if the city is willing to sell him the land. It's called Whole Fools. This new concept uses the art of tomfoolery on the average consumer. For example, a highly fattening food which is processes with a lot of chemicals will be labeled "100% Organic" in the Whole Fools store. It will also bare a price 45% above suggested retail. The store's motto is, "What the customers don't know won't hurt them."

GA Red Bug: To White Water and Baldwin

I keep getting these "Stop Crying In Your Beer" post from both White Water and Baldwin; White Water actually saying their path to the championship even tougher than Fayetteville's or Baldwin's. White Water should be jumping for Joy, Lovejoy!

abc1234: Drunk Drivers at Ruby Tuesday's

The other night I made the mistake of eating dinner at the Ruby Tuesday's on Peachtree Pkwy and 54.
There was a family in the booth across from us-- a father with two young daughters and an older woman I assumed was his mother. They were already eating when we sat down, and in the time we were there I saw the father drink 3 beers.

Nitpickers: Mexican Immigrants: Who favors

Does the republican party favor the immigrants more than do the democrats?
I am of course speaking of illegals only. I assume no one is against legal Mexicans.

thebeaver: NAACP Honors Criminals

Notice how the NAACP created a special "Staying the Course" award for this punk for preying on an underage woman. This just goes to show how much respect that community has for women. I guess the name of the award was based on his "performance" on the video.

Nitpickers: Amphitheater and Tennis Center

The ongoing argument about poor talent in general at the amphitheater may be due to a good reason!
As many of you know, the amphitheater has in the past subsidized the Tennis Center which loses money.

FCHS1fan: GREAT job area cheerleaders

A great big congrats to NGHS,SMHS,WHS and MHS cheerleaders! What a way to represent our region, finishing 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th.

muddle's picture

EL SEGUNDO, CA —The Mattel corporation, long-time maker of such familiar toys as the Barbie doll and G. I. Joe, as well as products by its subsidiary, Fisher-Price toys, faces what may prove to be the largest class action lawsuit in history.

GA Red Bug: A SPORTING CHANCE!

Opportunity of a life time!

One of my favorite Jerry Clower yarns is the one about the Raccoon Hunters not shooting the raccoon out of the tree because that ain't sporting, but prodding him with a stick till he jumps into a pack of hounds with the option of whipping the pack ... or not. Strikes me the Fayette County High School Tigers face a similar challenge.
