Drunk Drivers at Ruby Tuesday's

The other night I made the mistake of eating dinner at the Ruby Tuesday's on Peachtree Pkwy and 54.
There was a family in the booth across from us-- a father with two young daughters and an older woman I assumed was his mother. They were already eating when we sat down, and in the time we were there I saw the father drink 3 beers.
There was a problem with someone's food and the manager came out to talk to them. The man, clearly drunk, rambled on and on at him about nothing in particular for at least 10 minutes before he let the manager leave the table.
Eventually the family got their check. They stood up to leave and the man shook the waiter's hand and slurred something about what a great time they had had. He then proceeded to walk out of the restaurant, past the waiter and the hostesses WITH HIS CAR KEYS IN HIS HAND and his family in tow. No one made a move to stop him. I didn't even see anyone check to make sure he wasn't driving.
I flagged down our waiter and told him that the man had left holding his keys. The waiter insisted that the man "wasn't that drunk" (despite the fact he had shaken his hand and was slurring his speech). I pressed the issue, and the waiter said "Whatever. It doesn't matter," and began clearing the family's table. By this time I assumed the family had driven off.
I don't know if the man actually drove home-- for all I know his mother may have been the designated driver. But the point is that Ruby Tuesday's doesn't know, either, because no one on their staff could be bothered to look out into the parking lot after a drunk guy walked out of their restaurant with his car keys in hand.
I called the day manager yesterday. He apologized, said they take drunk driving very seriously, and took the name of the waiter.
I really don't relish the thought of driving along one night and being hit by some drunken jack**s that Ruby Tuesday's let slip from its unappetizing grasp.

P.S. They were out of croutons and my cheese fries were burned.

Here's some information that you can think about:

You should have tried a "citizens arrest". You even admit you have NO IDEA if the husband or wife drove home, yet you come on here and rant. Like the poster below says, get a life.

The cops came and everything. It turned into quite the scene. I was hanged in effigy by many who were there that i thought were my friends. But I did what i thought was necessary. Of course, that gentleman, a very decent fellow i might add, was really drunk. What did you, again? Told a kid? Often times it is difficult to do what we know is right. Acts of courage can be frightening and sometimes dangerous. Self grandizing oneself anon on-line or over the phone is easy and is an empty gesture.

All the merry little elves can go hang themselves!

Surely the woman who was with this gentleman should be the one to say "Give those keys to me right now". Most servers get no training nor are they advised that the drunks are their responsibility. I agree that this guy should not have been driving but the chic should have handled it.

in order to get a server license? I hope Ruby Tuesday's took you seriously as they have much to loose if there ever was litigation brought against them because of an impaired driver.

If one counts the drinking places here, and then evaluates the drinkers in a few places, it is easy to see that many (as many as possibly 50) drive home drunk on Fridays!
I see no tickets given in the paper to these people!
However, a drunk Mexican, walking, would definitely be picked up!
It is our heritage!
