To White Water and Baldwin

I keep getting these "Stop Crying In Your Beer" post from both White Water and Baldwin; White Water actually saying their path to the championship even tougher than Fayetteville's or Baldwin's. White Water should be jumping for Joy, Lovejoy!

I see and understand where Baldwin is coming from. If I were affiliated by family to Baldwin I would probably feel exactly the same as Baldwin; If White Water was my team, hopefully I would realize how lucky I am.

Fayetteville came out the worse for some ridiculous changes in seeding ... by using the AJC rankings; and the fact Fayetteville is a legitimate Region Champ and Number One seed having forced on them a higher ranked team as a 4th seed in game one. Incredible and shameful!

I pity Baldwin having to face Fayette's just wrath.

To win the Championship (worse case scenario) unranked White Water must defeat (or have defeated for them) ... (1) The unranked 5-5 Lovejoy; (2) The number two ranked Tucker; (3) The number seven ranked E. Paulding; (4) The number five ranked Habersham Central; and (5) The number One Ranked North Side Warner Robins. Well?

Baldwin to win they must defeat the numbers 6, 0, 3, 1, and 2 ranked teams (Tough!)

White Water to win must defeat 0, 2, 5, 7, and 1 ranked teams. I'll Take that!

Fayetteville to win must defeat 4, 0, 3, 1, and 2 ranked teams. (Tougher)

I live in the White Water district and Grand Kids will be going to White Water. We have dear friends with kids in White Water. But this year I am pulling for Fayetteville, a school only ten years younger then me, yet never having won a Championship; in fact, this was first Region win. That's all I got to say on the matter ... cept for "GO TIGERS!".

You know what, playoffs are hard for everybody - it's the best of the best and you have to bring your A game. (Period!)

And not to be a complete jerk or downer, but nobody from this county is winning a state championship in football anytime soon. Sorry, but outside of Starr's Mill hosting the quarterfinals a few years ago and playing in the semis a few years before that, nobody has even gotten close.

Look back on how many teams from the area - Creekside included - didn't make it to the finals - it's going to happen this year too.

Fayette had a good season - heck a great season - their best season most of us can remember - but they haven't played a ranked team, have they? Have they really faced adversity this season?

Anything can happen and I expect that local football will still be going on next week, but we should all calm down on state title talk. It is highly unlikely that a Fayette team will be a state champ and not reaching that goal won't take away from great seasons.

On another note, John Thompson, how about them Auburn Tigers? The Tide will roll and knock Tuberville right out of town.

I tried to bring them down easy a day or so ago. I'll be surprised if more than ONE team from Fayette's region advances past the 2nd round. Frankly, I'll be surprised if any make it, but I'm trying to be nice here. These folks haven't seen the talent we're up against.

That said, I'm going to see Fayette Friday night and I'll be cheering for them.

To "Football Head"

To not be a "Downer", you give one hulluva good immitation. If every team, if even 1/2 the teams in the State, started off the season with the same pessimistic attitude as you, football would soon be a thing of the past.

If every year you had one team happy, and all the rest in the depths of depression and despair, the health department would outlaw football. Naw, wouldn't have to, if people were that into being losers there would never be any competitive sports.

It is the dream, the anticipation, the excitement that just maybe ... and guess what, miracles do come true enough times to warrant that hope, excitement, anticipation of a team, a school, a community, a town.. That's what football is all about! ME? I believe the 6th ranked fayette County Tigers are going to knock off the number four ranked Baldwin Braves Friday on their way to the AAAA Championship game, and I am as excited and happy as can be about it, looking forward to it... "I BELIEVE!"

I guess it was a bit of a downer - I hadn't had my breakfast of Red Bull and chocolate covered donuts yet -
HOWEVER
The Tigers have prided themselves on taking one game at a time and some people yesterday and today are looking five steps ahead.
Let's just enjoy each game as it comes and not worry about who might face whom in the semifinals.

The best win-loss record will win you the Region Championship. But if you don't plan on winning all five games, don't bother going to the playoffs.

When you know you are going to win you are most times right, even when odds against you. When you know you are going to lose, you are most times right, even when odds are for you. It is hard, very hard, to beat a team that is confident they not only can win, but should and will win ... and hold that belief up till the very last play.

I don't generally subscribe to the Lombardi qoute "Winning isn't everything, it is the only thing!", but in the playoffs ...? Nobody remembers who came in second (well, championship game, maybe they do), but for sure they don't remember 32 through say five, or even 4,3,2 for long. BUT CHAMPION? That is a lifetime of remembering!

Absolutely focus on each game, play like the next game is the last game and the Championship depends on it ... because it does! Always know you are going to win it, no doubts! ... and give it all you got doing it.
