A SPORTING CHANCE!Opportunity of a life time! One of my favorite Jerry Clower yarns is the one about the Raccoon Hunters not shooting the raccoon out of the tree because that ain't sporting, but prodding him with a stick till he jumps into a pack of hounds with the option of whipping the pack ... or not. Strikes me the Fayette County High School Tigers face a similar challenge. Has any high school football team competing for the State Championship ever had the prospect of possibly (quite probably) facing the numbers One, Two, Three, and Four ranked teams on their way to victory? There are eighty teams competing in Class AAAA. The sixth ranked (number one seed in lower half of NE quadrant of bracket) Fayetteville Tigers, will open against number four ranked Baldwin due to some curious miscarriage of justice concerning seeding. The next test against a top four ranked team could come in round three when they will probably face Number Three ranked Tucker. It gets worse! The fourth round will almost certainly be against the Number One in the State, North Side Warner Robins. For Fayetteville to win the Championship, you have to put your money on the Fayetteville Tigers facing off against the Number Two Ranked Thomas County Central in the Championship Game, if rankings have any meaning at all. But for the Number Six Tigers, the West side of the Play-Off Bracket houses the lower half of the top ten teams. TCC has the best shot. The worst scenario TCC might face would be having to beat the Seventh and Fifth ranked teams to get to the Championship Game. I know, "On Any Given Day", But four out of five days being one of those "On Any Given Day" for Fayetteville? WHAT A CHALLENGE! When Fayetteville wins the Championship, there should be some great big asterisk followed by extra special honors. GA Red Bug's blog | login to post comments |
