A SPORTING CHANCE!

Opportunity of a life time!

One of my favorite Jerry Clower yarns is the one about the Raccoon Hunters not shooting the raccoon out of the tree because that ain't sporting, but prodding him with a stick till he jumps into a pack of hounds with the option of whipping the pack ... or not. Strikes me the Fayette County High School Tigers face a similar challenge.

Has any high school football team competing for the State Championship ever had the prospect of possibly (quite probably) facing the numbers One, Two, Three, and Four ranked teams on their way to victory? There are eighty teams competing in Class AAAA.

The sixth ranked (number one seed in lower half of NE quadrant of bracket) Fayetteville Tigers, will open against number four ranked Baldwin due to some curious miscarriage of justice concerning seeding. The next test against a top four ranked team could come in round three when they will probably face Number Three ranked Tucker. It gets worse! The fourth round will almost certainly be against the Number One in the State, North Side Warner Robins.

For Fayetteville to win the Championship, you have to put your money on the Fayetteville Tigers facing off against the Number Two Ranked Thomas County Central in the Championship Game, if rankings have any meaning at all. But for the Number Six Tigers, the West side of the Play-Off Bracket houses the lower half of the top ten teams. TCC has the best shot. The worst scenario TCC might face would be having to beat the Seventh and Fifth ranked teams to get to the Championship Game.

I know, "On Any Given Day", But four out of five days being one of those "On Any Given Day" for Fayetteville? WHAT A CHALLENGE! When Fayetteville wins the Championship, there should be some great big asterisk followed by extra special honors.

I've been to all the Tucker games (nephew is one of 2 kickers and I went to school there) and one Fayette game (I live here!!). If they play, Tucker's speed and defense should push them past Fayette but Fayette will give 'em a tough game. Best of luck to BOTH Tiger teams!!!

okay there are 32 teams not whatever you said in the playoff. then also the other teams in your bracket have the same challange as you. baldwin has to come here first to play a number one on the road even though they should be number 2. then after they beat you they have the same pathway you talk about. my nephew play for them and he is a college running back - he can't be stop. we got to win against lovejoy which is easy then we got to play thomas county - another nephew there- do you want to trade? this how the playoff works. get used to it if you want to be a playa. all them years stars mill were in you didnt cry. just play.

orc (onlyrealcat), Do you proof-read your posts? Skipping words, using the wrong tense of a word (present tense or past tense), using singular instead of plural words - your posts are not easy to decipher what you're (you are) trying to say.

And thanks for being the authority on all things "playoff." Just because you state it doesn't make me believe it.

I didn't say Bracket, I said there are 80 class AAAA teams in the state ... that sentence concerned rankings. Being ranked in the top ten out of 80 is more impressive then top ten out of ten, or 32.

How regions are set up, I know, is determined by proximity to like classed schools. But Region "1" having only four teams (all going to play off) and Region "4" having 15 teams split into A and B, then deciding where to place/seed after the fact regardless of records, is more than curious, I think.

I agree Baldwin does have a tough battle ahead of them. I think all top ranked teams with exceptional records should be rewarded by being seeded so that they don't knock each other off before reaching the semi-finals. I also know it is impossible for strange things not to happen ... but this is beyond strange. Baldwin should be a two seed, they are ranked higher than five of the number one seeds. Baldwin should be playing a three seed but your Region 4 coaches decided to work it this way.

Whatever, either White Water or Fayette County could, can, and will send Baldwin home early, and that isn't fair for Baldwin.

It was set, then reset, I was simply commenting on the Herculian challenge facing Fayette County's quest for the Championship against a stacked deck.

Would it make you feel better to play TCC in the 2nd round like Whitewater has to. The tigers first test will be Tuckerin the 3rd round.

Fayette County will probably play TCC in fifth round anyway.

Would I rather have a team Play in a bracket that has only one team ranked above seven, than three teams? Let me think a second .... WELL, YEAH! We have our eye on the Championship ... can you remember who came in in 16th place last year? You worry about getting by second round, I worry for all the ranked teams Fayette is sending home early because of bad seeding. (sure i do)

SE Quadrant
#1 NS Warner Robins has a red carpet path to the quarter finals.

NW Quadrant
#2 Tucker has #7 E. Spaulding and #8 Mays in it's bracket

NE Quadrant
#3 Tucker has #4 Baldwin and #6 Fayette County in it's bracket.

Sw Quadrant
#5 Habersham Central has #9 Marist and #10 Ware County.

At this stage, rankings don't mean squat, only for colleges do they mean anything, at this level you have to play your way to the championship. I read the paper too, it's a tough draw, someone gets a tough draw every year. Like I said Tucker will be the first real test.

I am aware it is show time. I am aware it is important to not be intimidated. I am aware rankings, trying to determine the best ten teams our of a given set, in this case 80, when in most cases they haven't played each other, is a best guess effort of people whose qualifications are not always stirling ... but it is a tool. I will bet you two to one, and give you the twenty two teams not ranked in top ten.

Hey ... This is Monday on the first week of play. Everyone is still digesting the bracket and the seedings, especially since there has been one seeding already; the change to it totally illogical. Allow me this final day to indulge my rightous outrage. Remember, right off the bat the number six and number four ranked teams play, for sure one will be knocked out ... that is wrong.

Pity poor 8-1 4th ranked Baldwin. They deserved better than having to take the fourth seed that should have gone to unranked, 5-5, Lovejoy. That bad luck has them facing the eventual Champion Fayette County Tigers the first round.

They are loaded. NS Warner Robins too. TCC also.

I would be very wary of Baldwin. If you look passed them to the next round you will be buying a ticket. I watched them play Starrs Mill last year and they are a very formidible opponent. Good luck in the playoffs.

I would go ahead and beat Baldwin. They've come too far to stop now.

GO TIGERS!

The Tigers look past no one, one game at a time is how they got here.
