As a citizen, who may need public safety one day, you may want to question the Fire Chief why less experienced individuals, some with criminal records and others that have refused to participate in emergency scene operations are being hired in lieu of highly trained and motivated applicants.

Does Tyrone really intend to keep the taxpayers from knowing whether or not public funds were improperly taken by employees? If money was not improperly taken, then the citizens should be told that, so rumors won’t fly. If money was taken, then the guilty parties should be prosecuted. One rumor going around is that the Council doesn’t want to prosecute because the guilty parties might hire a lawyer; then the town would have to spend legal defense funds and cost the taxpayers more money. Not if they’re guilty.

Four people have drowned in just one of our Atlanta Lakes---all due to low water from the drought. Sharp drops-offs of water depth and sand bars showing are the causes. Multitudes of expensive boat motors and boats have been ruined by running into trash, etc.

A little story: when I was in Jr. High School a friend of mine, Billy, had just about had not being able to say "black" in 1956 Boston without being made fun of by the white people; I mean whether you were talking about a car or a person. He started down the street after school yelling, "I'm black and I'm proud of it!" at the top of his lungs to everyone within earshot. Because he was my friend, I joined him. Pretty soon there were about 7 or 8 of us, from all races, saying the same thing (would you believe a Mohegan Indian? Or an Irish kid?). An old black man was seated on a stoop at the end of the street. He called me over and asked, What are you saying, son?" When I repeated it, he jumped up and started hopping around. "Do you know how long I've been waiting to hear that?" he said. "Now I know everything will be all right."

He was a good guy, to those who knew him well. Even if he didn't know you, he was always a gentleman. He was beaten into unconsciousness outside the Red Room in Peachtree City, laid in a hospital bed in ICU in a coma, and passed away this morning. He was beaten by several people outside Red Room while their security watched it happen. A shame. Devan, you will be missed. God rest your soul.

Wooten had so many agitations in his column of today (Friday the 4th in AJC) that I must comment upon them.

Denver, Colorado according to him is wasting their time and money trying to stay clean and green. That may be true for the current live folks there, but their grand children will appreciate it!
