Early Voting Beings July 7th - Please VoteEarly voting begins tomorrow, July 7th. I hope that between now and July 15th all who are able to vote will do so. We have had some pretty poor turnouts in past elections. With so many offices to be decided upon, it is important that we all be heard and cast our votes. Some races have garnered a great deal of attention, particularly that of Fayette Co. Sheriff, the Fayette Co. Board of Education, the the D.A - understandably so, but we should not overlook any of the others. Thee has been a lot going on with the Fayette County Commission - most of it not good. We, the citizens, should not allow it to continue. Right now, Peter Pfeifer is the only commissioner who is looking out for us. In addition, I think that over all, he represents the ideals the majority of us have for Fayette County. We need to make sure he is re-elected. He has knowledge of what is going on and knows what we can do about it. He needs our help to re-elect him, and he needs our help to replace the other commissioners up for re-election (Frady & Horgan) so that when he votes in our behalf, he won't be the only vote. Should Hearn or Kourajian be elected, it will be of no benefit. Hearn is a former employee who doesn't see anything wrong with the tremendous raises recently granted or the defined benefit plan. As others have pointed out, there is also a significant conflict of interest involved as he is currently employed by Henry County. Kourajian was basically ineffective as a Peachtree City councilman, and there is nothing to indicate he would be any different on the commission. In fact, I've been told that he would probably fall in line with the current commissioners...and down we go! I am also concerned that Kourajian will concentrate on Peachtree City and forget that the rest of us in the County even exist. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but at the forum held at Sam's auditorium, he ALMOST referred to how he would represent Peachtree City, but caught himself and corrected it to Fayette County (approx. 4-5 times). As I've stated before, I'm sure the majority of current commissioners would be glad to see Pfeifer go. He gets in their way and airs their dirty laundry. Apparently those commissioners don't think we have a right to know what they are up to. Which reminds me, Pfeifer lets us know through Letters to the Editor; something Kourajian finds silly and trite. Well, the time has come. Give each vote careful consideration. We will either benefit or pay the price for our actions. My sincere thanks go out to all of the candidates who have worked hard to earn our votes! the weasel's blog | login to post comments |
