State smoke-free rules to take effect this weekend

Rules for Georgia's Smokefree Air Act of 2005 are to take effect Nov. 17, the day of the Great American Smokeout. The rules were adopted by the Department of Human Resources Board Oct. 19, after the Act took effect July 1. Health officials say the law and the rules help assure Georgians that the places they dine, work and visit will be smoke free.

Ga. Aquarium, UGA partner in aquatic veterinary program

In addition to being one of the world’s largest aquariums, with more than eight million gallons of marine and fresh water, the Georgia Aquarium will also serve as the leading facility for aquatic veterinary medicine. The Veterinary Services & Conservation Medicine Program, a cooperative endeavor between Georgia Aquarium and the University of Georgia, will be the largest facility to integrate a veterinary teaching hospital into an aquarium.

Brownies present bears to Tyrone

During the month of September, Brownie Troop #176 kicked off a “Share Some Care by Giving a Bear” service project which entailed collecting new and gently loved bears and other stuffed toys to donate to the Tyrone emergency services group.
