Tyrone turnout better than Fayetteville

Some 7,464 voters cast ballots in the Nov. 8 general election in Peachtree City, accounting for 35.87 percent of the city’s 20,810 registered voters.

The city’s precincts varied in turnout from just over 27 percent at the Kedron polling place and just over 40 percent at the Aberdeen precinct. Voter turnout is seen as a key to the Dec. 6 runoff for mayor, where incumbent Steve Brown faces newcomer Harold Logsdon.

In Fayetteville, just 7.36 percent of registered voters bothered to cast ballots in the election. A total of 589 persons voted, but only one of the council seats was contested. Paul Oddo unseated longtime Councilman Al Hovey-King in that race.

The Town of Tyrone attracted more of a crowd for two council seats, drawing 778 voters to the polls, representing 23.09 percent of registered voters.

The Town of Woolsey also had a good turnout, with 41 of its 111 registered voters casting ballots, equal to nearly almost 37 percent of the electorate. That was despite only one of the town council seats being contested.
