Grace Caldwell and Gloria Furr were voted onto the Tyrone Town Council Tuesday, but they won by varying margins.

Furr bested opponent Cary Dial with nearly 64 percent of votes cast in her favor for the post 4 seat. In the five-way race for the post 3 seat, Caldwell got the most votes with 45.8 percent of ballots cast, ahead of incumbent Lisa Richardson in second with 18.3 percent. Rounding out the field were Michael Server with 14.5 percent, Kevin Edwards with 12.6 percent and David Nebergall with 8.7 percent.

Unlike some municipalities, Tyrone does not require a majority to win office, so Caldwell was declared the winner.

More than 23 percent of the town’s voters cast ballots in the race, according to a report from the Fayette County Board of Elections. A total of 778 votes were cast in the election, equaling 23 percent of the town’s voters.

In Peachtree City, incumbent councilman Steve Rapson was bested by newcomer Steve Boone, and Cyndi Plunkett won a three-way race for the other council seat. But the mayor’s race won’t be settled until Dec. 6 as none of the candidates got more than 50 percent of the vote.

With 41.9 percent of votes cast, Harold Logsdon got nearly twice as many votes as incumbent Mayor Steve Brown who scored 21.7 percent in second place. They will be the only two competitors facing off in the runoff per election rules.

35.8 percent of Peachtree CIty voters showed up to cast votes in the at-large races.

In Fayetteville, long-serving councilman Al Hovey-King was defeated by Paul C. Oddo Jr, who outpaced Hovey-King by a margin of 337 to 248. Just 589 votes were cast, good for a 7.36 percent turnout of the city’s registered voters. Councilmen Larry Dell and Walt White ran unopposed.

In Woolsey’s only contested race, Kenneth N. Wright defeated C. Ron Smith 40-6 in the race for the Post 1 council seat. Mayor Gary Laggis and Councilman Jack Gilson were unopposed.
