The grand opening of the Peachtree City Library has been rescheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m., commencing with a ribbon-cutting in front of the newly-refurbished and expanded facility.

Following the ribbon cutting, the public is invited for a self-guided tour until 8 p.m. The library will not be open for business during this time, officials said.

The library has been open since Oct. 31, but a manufacturing problem with the new shelving led to the postponement of the grand opening. The problem was cosmetic and has been fixed, according to Library Administrator Jill Prouty.

Library staff worked around the clock to prepare for the opening, dealing with delayed shipments of computer furniture and book browsers from Denmark that were held in customs in Newark, N.J., for eight days.

“We know how important library service is for our community, so we pulled out all the stops when it came to getting the library ready to open on time,” Prouty said. “We’ve been working out the kinks since Oct. 31 and we’re now ready for the official ribbon-cutting.”
