Construction of Fayette’s newest middle school has been marked by a ceremonial groundbreaking lead by Fayette County Board of Education members, school leaders and those heading up the design and construction of the project. The new school, which has not officially been named, will be located next door to Cleveland Elementary on Lester Road in Fayetteville. Construction of the school is part of a $65 million bond referendum that was approved by voters last November. The referendum also includes the construction of two new elementary schools, a number of additions and upgrades to existing schools and technology infrastructure improvements. The new middle school will cover 158,653 square feet and will accommodate a student enrollment of 1,187. The school will feature 72 instructional units including 15 science labs, 45 regular classrooms, six special education classrooms, three team planning rooms, a gymnasium and weight room as well as rooms for art, band, chorus, technology, business, heath, media and computer. Overseeing the school’s design and construction are architects Manley, Spangler, Smith, civil engineers Integrated Science and Engineering, structural engineers Willett Engineering Company, mechanical and electrical engineers Andrews, Hammock and Powell and contractor R.K. Redding Construction, Inc. The school is expected to open for the 2007-2008 academic year. login to post comments |
