Oak Grove Elementary celebrated the importance of mathematics in everyday life with a daylong “Fall Into Math” celebration last month. The school’s Math Task Force, led by Instructional Support Teacher Lynn Shirley, sponsored the day. An opening pep rally was held in the gym featuring several members of the Starr’s Mill High band and the Starr’s Mill varsity cheerleaders. Lynn Ridgeway, coordinator of mathematics for Fayette County, opened the celebration by expressing the importance of mathematics and its use in the “real world.” All pre-K through fifth grade students participated in the day’s math activities, which included a school-wide estimation contest, relay races, graphing data, sorting items, mental math, basic fact work, problem solving practice and much more! Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown closed the day’s activities with presentations to students and teachers for “mathnificent” efforts in math. login to post comments |
