I just spoke with one of my kids' friend, who is 14 years old, and she routinely drives the family golf cart around by herself or with her girlfriends "just for fun." I asked her if her parents knew that she did this and she said "yes" and I asked her if they were okay with this, even though it was illegal, and she said "yes."

I watched the inauguration with hundreds of other Democrats on Tuesday and I would say that 98% of them were white. The room we were in was filled with applause, tears, laughter and a sense of community that I had not felt in a long time. We all watched with collective anticipation as the clock approached 12:00 noon because we knew at that moment our country would have a new President, a man who obviously we had all supported and had voted for. And after Obama took the oath of office and the inauguration continued, while Joseph Lowery delivered his prayer, we continued to watch and listen to the words with respect and deference for this Civil Rights icon. I must admit, however, when he uttered the phrase "and white will embrace what is right", I was taken aback by his words, offended really, that he would insinuate that whites did not embrace what is right, especially at this moment when all I could see around me were white people who HAD embraced what they believed to be right, by voting for Obama. If it weren't for the millions of white people in this country who voted for Obama, he would not have been elected President.

I was wondering if anyone had seen this movie yet and if so, is it really too violent to take kids to see? I heard that some of the scenes were really disturbing, like when one kid gets blinded by acid.

So, the Palestinian's and Hamas lob several bombs and missiles over the fence at Israel. I know they're sick and tired of being oppressed, their children starved, rations, etc etc. I can understand their plight and so the Palestinian people fight on. But, I can also see why Israel would retaliate against them. Israel attacks with major bombage and now crosses the border into Gaza in order to obliterate Hamas, with of course mega collateral damage and civilian deaths. Why did Israel attack with such force this time? The Palestinians have always been poking sticks at the big tiger in the cage but why did Israel get so pissed off now? Why not years ago? Is this their last attempt to finally eradicate the Palestinians in Gaza?

Wow, way to piss off the few supporters he still has in this country, the 20-25% that still think he's "one of them" and who believe Jesus rode dinosaurs to church on Sunday. I wonder if the right-wing fundies are feeling like a used Kleenex right about now?

Should McCain win the election, his transition team will be headed up by his buddy John Lehman, former Navy secretary in the Reagan administration. For those not familiar with John Lehman, he was an active particpant in the infamous Tailhook parties, one in particular that was written about in the 1995 book, Fall from Glory: The Men Who Sank the U.S. Navy, by Greg Vistica, the San Diego Union-Tribune reporter who broke the Tailhook scandal.

Sarah Palin was against news coverage of her meeting with foreign leaders, before she was FOR it? Confusing.

CNN/AP is reporting that the media was covering Palin's meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai when she asked him what his son's name is and "Karzai replied his name was Mirwais and explained that it means light of the house.
