Darwin Day in PTC

Main Stream's picture

"The Fayette Freethought Society will host a Darwin Day celebration on Saturday, February 27th from 7:00-9:00 pm at the Starbucks in Peachtree City (next to Steinmart on Hwy. 54)."

...now THAT is encouraging!

If you believe in evolution then what your ancestors did or did not should not be of concern. It was Alexis de Tocqueville who chronicled we measure men not by who their father was but by who they are.

Are there going to be Darwin Awards?

Actually, I've never attended one of these so I'm not sure what to expect, but I may have to go check it out. It would be refreshing to meet people in F-County who actually believed in science and evolution. Eye-wink However, folks like the bpr/denise crowd may burst into flames upon entering Starbucks for an event like this.

Speaking of evolution, I am convinced that our childrens grandchildren will be born with cell phones attached to one ear and a mouse for a hand. Smiling

I believe most these awards were won following the utterance of these famous last words "Hey guys, watch this".

I didn't know about the Darwin Awards until Carbonunit explained it to me.

Their motto:
"A Chronicle of Enterprising Demises
Honoring those who improve the species...by
accidentally removing themselves from it!"

It is no wonder that males are always the recipients of the Darwin Award. Fortunately for me, none of my ancestors won one.

My favorite was a mere honorable mention:

The guy who replaced a fuse in his truck with a .22 bullet, which (as the story goes) heated up, fired, and shot him where it counts.

A runner up is the guy who was naked and inebriated and crawled into a bear cage at a zoo and was mauled to death.

"Survival of the fittest", what a fine conservative concept. I like it. I think I may even have a cup of tea if I attend.
