Andre65: 2010-2011 school year

What is going to happen next year? Most of the teachers I've talked to are actively pursuing job positions in other counties and/or fields. They can't afford to work here. Others are looking for second jobs. I wonder how many teachers will be at the open houses that are typically held in the evening?

Bonkers: Sonnet to recession budgets

So difficult to cut a person drawing taxes
Even more difficult to lower their wages.
But in times of hunger out come the axes

DarkMadam: PTC's wonderful(?) landscaping company ...

DarkMadam's picture

Today I was going into the turning lane to make a left hand turn into the McDonald/Chick-Fil-A area and one of these wonderful people who were mowing (finally) decided to suddenly drive off the median and into my path on the street.

wildcat: Square dancers?

Are there any square dancing clubs around here? Thanks.

DarthDubious: N.C. Terrorist Arrests Cued to Coincide with NLE ‘09

DarthDubious's picture

On Monday, the feds swooped down on an alleged terror group plotting murder and mayhem in North Carolina. A federal indictment against the gang claims Raleigh drywall contractor Daniel Patrick Boyd and associates sought to wage “violent jihad” abroad and engaged in “military-style training at home,” according to the Associated Press. Specific details are not provided by the government.

Bonkers: Georgia Peaches?

I find them hard to find in Fayette County! Why is that?

Supposedly, this was going to be a good year for Georgia peaches but they have been very scarce here. Some stores have peaches marked "southern peaches" but I don't know if they are South Carolina or South America.

TinCan: Yeah, this is a racial incident??

Appears more like an "I'm too important to be questioned" incident.

DarthDubious: What’s the Establishment Got to Hide?

DarthDubious's picture

In a puzzling editorial in Friday’s edition, the Washington Post blasted the Federal Reserve Transparency Act as “an unserious answer to a serious question.” The Post, which tends to be predictably liberal and quite bland in its editorial pronouncements, used unusually harsh language, calling the bill “wrongheaded in the extreme.” The Post fears the legislation “would destroy financial markets’ faith in the Fed and, by extension, the value of the U.S. dollar, just as surely as a political ‘audit’ of the Supreme Court’s deliberations would undercut public faith in the justice system.”

DarthDubious: Great Britain's Swine Flu Advisor On Vaccine Maker’s Payroll

DarthDubious's picture

Many people seem genuinely baffled that western governments are hyping the arrival of a swine flu pandemic as if it’s the greatest threat to humanity since the bubonic plague, despite the relatively low number of deaths from the virus, unaware that the pharmaceutical industry has been intimately joined at the hip with the state for decades.

MacTheKnife: Hey, Mr. Gore, we have a problem ....

Man made global warming is BS and the facts are starting to be too prolific to deny.

Sorry Al, but it looks like your carbon credit company is going the same direction as the democratic party.

TinCan: Health Care again

TinCan's picture

Have a friend who is in the process of reading the proposed plan. He has excerpted several sections in e-mails today. This guy is not a loon and usually checks out the wilder e-mails that fly around.

Bonkers: Comfort Time

It has been said that people who are well off never really appreciate that factor, whether they inherited their money or were one of those in the right place at the right time and weren't lazy. There are only so many "openings" for wealth accumulation, so it is necessary to be there then.

Davids mom: Health care - there is still hope!

MacTheKnife: The CDC said 43,771 cases of H1N1 influenza had been officially confirmed, with 302 deaths.

Is anyone else concerned that the lid has been put on information about the swine flu pandemic in this country?

Welcome to Government Control of Information

Bonkers: Unemployment money running out!

An Associated Press writer working for "NEWSER," yesterday commented upon the labor situation.

He indicated 14.7 million are unemployed now and 9.0 million more are what is called under-employed---working for much less than before the recession.

DarthDubious: 12,000 U.S. Children To Be Swine Flu Vaccine Guinea Pigs

DarthDubious's picture

Around 12,000 U.S. children will be used as guinea pigs for an experimental swine flu vaccine known to contain the dangerous ingredient squalene, which has been directly linked with cases of Gulf War Syndrome and a host of other debilitating diseases.

DarthDubious: FEMA to Conduct Massive NLE 09 Martial Law Exercise Next Week

DarthDubious's picture

Earlier this week, the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Craig Fugate met with several state governors to discuss “emergency preparedness,” according to a press release posted on FEMA’s website. “FEMA is committed to protecting and assisting our states and citizens during disasters,” said Fugate. “By working together and strengthening relationships at the state level, we can continue to build the national emergency response team which includes FEMA, as well as state, local, tribal and federal partners, the private sector and faith-based organizations. The work we are putting in now to build this team will go a long way during the next disaster.”

hutch866: Pray for Taylor

hutch866's picture

My friends, as most of you know I lost my sister almost a year ago to cancer and we lost the Wulfman to this disease also. I have a friend I went to school with who has a 10 year old child that has a tumor on her brain stem and has had repeated doses of chemo for the last couple of years. The courage of this child and her mother while facing this dreaded disease is just phenomenal. Little Taylor is having her 11th birthday nest month, the day after one of her chemo treatments, so she can't even have any friends in for a party to celebrate this milestone. Her mother has asked that as many people as possible to mail this child a birthday card, she asks for no money, or presents, or anything like that, just a simple birthday greeting. I know how giving the people here on the C can be so please in the spirit of the Wulfman send a card to a little girl and brighten a day for this kid. The address is as follows: Miss Taylor Hulsey

Bonkers: Depending upon the feds for GA water!

Is Georgia, a bastion of republican independency, actually going to Washington begging for water?

What do they want--some new dams? They cost upwards of 200 million, plus. They take many years to buy the land (if that is any longer possible) and build the things.

Bonkers: Afghan 115 degree Desert

What was announced as the objective (mission--as the army says) when this last invasion of southern (poppy fields area)Afghanistan started?
