In an average year, a typical coal plant generates:

* 3,700,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), the primary human cause of global warming (or ocean acidification, take your pick)--as much carbon dioxide as cutting down 161 million trees.

* 10,000 tons of sulfur dioxide (SO2), which causes acid rain that damages forests, lakes, and buildings, and forms small airborne particles that can penetrate deep into lungs.

* 500 tons of small airborne particles, which can cause chronic bronchitis, aggravated asthma, and premature death, as well as haze obstructing visibility.

* 10,200 tons of nitrogen oxide (NOx), as much as would be emitted by half a million late-model cars. NOx leads to formation of ozone (smog) which inflames the lungs, burning through lung tissue making people more susceptible to respiratory illness.

* 720 tons of carbon monoxide (CO), which causes headaches and place additional stress on people with heart disease.

* 220 tons of hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds (VOC), which form ozone.

* 170 pounds of mercury, where just 1/70th of a teaspoon deposited on a 25-acre lake can make the fish unsafe to eat.

* 225 pounds of arsenic, which will cause cancer in one out of 100 people who drink water containing 50 parts per billion.

* 114 pounds of lead, 4 pounds of cadmium, other toxic heavy metals, and trace amounts of uranium.

If over the years the same people who are whining about global warming and are misleading us as to the causes of climate change wouldn't have blocked nuclear power development over the past 40 years we WOULD NEVER HAVE CONSIDERED BURNING COAL to power this country. You guys are something else. Let's look back and examine some of the false fears and bogus world ending catastrophes that have been predicted and passed us by without admission of their falsehoods by the same clowns that giving us the 'catastrophe fad' of the moment.

Think about how many other false scare tactics scientists and politicians have foisted on us over the years to frighten us into complying with whatever lifestyle changes we needed to make at that moment to benefit their selfish, personal agendas.

Now all a sudden it is 'in' to support nuclear.

Caution - The Surgeon General has determined that constant blogging is an addiction that can cause a sedentary life style.

It is propaganda hype to scare you into accepting a global tax on carbon to be paid to the IMF and/or the World Bank. No tax in the world is going to stop the biggest driver of the earth's climate, do you know what it is? THE SUN!!! Yes that big nuclear fusion reactor at the center of the solar system.

The next driver is WATER VAPOR!!! Yes the oceans keep the earth nice and humid so we can have warmth and live in relative comfort.

CO2 has very little to do with the warming of our planet, in fact ice cores show that CO2 levels rise as a response to increases in temperature. Right now CO2 levels are between 3-5%. It has been as high as 13-15%, and this was long before gasoline and SUV's.
