The reason why this thing has not sailed through is because democrats - not republicans - are concerned about the potential costs.

NO. The demos and republicans are from an area that may not re-elect them if they vote for something not considered necessary by the people there!!!

They have voted for many, many bills with tons of MONEY in it---but that did not interfere with corporations!

There is no real empathy, sympathy, sorrow, or "feel bad" by them about people with no insurance. They should have gone to college and got a good job with health benefits, they say
Or should have worked harder for $6.25!

Wow! Congress voting the will of the people they represent. Could it be that the vast majority of their constituents oppose the government takeover of our health care system?

"Not Interfere"???? You have GOT to be kidding me.

Obama.... The Bernie Madoff Of Washington

A health reform bill that all parties and the public acknowledge is needed? The problem is how to pay for it - and the Congress is trying diligently to work that out before the end of the year. If they don't - there will be some new and younger faces in Congress.

raising taxes or paring back and or eliminating other federal programs.

Honestly, I know something needs to be done with our health care. I'm not cold and heartless. President Obama is on target when he says that health care cost in the US is going to be a big problem.

How big is this problem going to be? Right now it's reported that health care is about 17% of our GNP and in few short years it will be 20%. Another way to look at this is that's the current federal budget and the $1 trillion deficit. That's 20% percent of the economy that serves just the one thing. Other nations based on a 2005 survey reveals lower percentages. Switzerland 11.6%, France 11.1%, Canada 9.8%, Mexico 6.4%. By comparison, the US was 15.3% again, this was in 2005.

The question is how to deliver this care at a reduced cost. This should be tackled first before another 50 million more are dumped into a program that the CBO says will bust our economy.

Now, how do we roll back this cost? Cutting back on insurance profits or executive salaries? Did I mention that health care in the US cost about $2.8 trillion. So $500 million here or $30 million there is really "bug squat" in the real scheme of things. Do we tell everyone in the profession that they have to take a pay-cut? Do we tell General Electric or pharmacy companies not to invest in new technologies and drugs because they will not recoup their investment? Do we prescribe wage and price controls? Nixon tried that and we paid for that.

I don’t have the answer but, I hope and pray (yes Bonker$ - pray) that our elected representatives can find a solution without socializing; for then we all will end up with mediocre care.

Thank you for understanding that "something" must be done.

You say health care costs 2.8 trillion. I think the 2010 budget is only about 4.0 trillion!

You say another 50 million shouldn't be "dumpted in." Do you mean trillion?

My opinion is tha about 30% of our spending is for health care---not 20%. That number may include some thing not in the 20%. It is paid for by taxes, (Including SS and Medicare taxes), citizen payments for insurance, and donations.

The problem is this:
Too many jobs at too high wages and profits are included.
Same as was the case with autos, etc.

Too many people get "rich" off the money, pharmacuetical companies and their employees, many doctors, many administrators, many construction companies, etc.

We need to spend all of that money, but some for other needy things and still get good health care.

We need a bigger "middle class" (one car, one house, health insurance, good school) and smaller lower class, and upper class! Everyone, not even the majority, can be "well off."

A small core of the poor and ignorant and a few very wealthy people, will always be with us.
We have been trying for all to be "well off."It won't work.

I've been to about a half dozen county fairs and four goat ropings but I'll tell buddy, you are one of a kind.

I don't get it! You goof on your comments but called me "one of a kind!"

Have you ever attended or participated in a multi-hog-killing and salting down?

Muhammad Ali once gave me a "rope-a-dope" at a trade show, but I never saw a goat roping! They really stink.

Have you ever been to a turkey shoot? Best score with a shotgun and #8 birdshot at an X on a card gets the turkey, or all the entry money! That is what Cheneythought he was shooting--an X.

Ever played poker outdoors on a Sunday afternoon with a bottle of Four Roses, while sitting on a stump or a rock around a flat stone using coal company script?

Have you ever made a home-made limestone-gravel shooter out of a piece of maple and two inner-tube strips and a shoe tongue, with which you could actually kill birds and rabbits?

Have you ever gone ground hog hunting, found one in his den, and twisted him out of the hole with a long stick with a fork on the end wound up in his fur? They taste better than a possum---at least they did during the Great Depression! Make a lot of water gravy and smear ir all over water-corn bread the corn stolen from a field and crushed up with sand stones.

Man, you ain't seen nothing have you?

to be able to get into that head and see just what makes it tick? I bet it would baffle the best scientists in the world. And he is all ours, or I should say they are all ours.

in time for campaigning in the 2010 elections. The Republican party, and any conservative Democrat, knows that preventing this from passing will result in a lost election. Reform is needed, in conjunction with a sound method of financing it. Personally, I believe that there is enough "pork" in the budget to finance it, as well as ending the three wars that we are fighting: Iraq, Afghanistan and Drugs.

It's not easy being the carbonunit
