Georgia Peaches?

I find them hard to find in Fayette County! Why is that?

Supposedly, this was going to be a good year for Georgia peaches but they have been very scarce here. Some stores have peaches marked "southern peaches" but I don't know if they are South Carolina or South America.

Did some cartel tie up all of the Georgia peaches up there in the mountains or did Zell Miller who lives up there send them to Minnesota where they bring more money?
Maybe some canner bought them all?

Heck we don't have that many things to be famous for in Georgia! We are about to run out of the "fishin holes" the governor was advertising as available in Georgia!
It seems we don't even have the use of the water!

We have Lockheed but they are always losing ground and going broke and overcharging Washington, so we don't brag much about them!

UGA was voted the best party school nearly in the nation as well as cutting off admissions due to overcrowding, and it is not safe to walk through the housing in the streets near GA Tech!

I don't really know of anything except the army and air force that is south of Peachtree City in GA. Columbus has got some low-wage stuff and like Atlanta, a large welfare situation but anything else is hard to come up with.

Anybody know how much cotton we grow nowadays?

get some GA Peaches into an essay on the whole state of GA. What does the search for peaches have to do with an aircraft manufacturing plant, et al? Maybe you are missing all your alter egos and should call them up for a nice little chat--ask about and discuss all those issues with them. They don't seem to be around much anymore or are there new ones we are not aware of yet? Since you ask a question and usually answer it yourself and because you feel no one is as smart as you, these little talks with yourself would be so much more satisfying to you and would keep everyone else happier.

I hope you can find the time to read my research today into the Georgia Peach situation! We are getting sc.....!

If some of you wouldn't pretend to know something that you don't and simply answer the question, then there would be any "calling out."

One guy told me to buy white peaches!

Another to drive out maybe $15 dollars worth of gas to maybe find some GA peaches!

The subject was:

GA isn't famous for much, except peaches and we can't get many! Why?

The Lockhed thing once was a famous landmark for GA---not any more!

Etc.

Geesh! Thick.

You just don't pay much attn to posts do you? I've posted twice about local peaches at Carroll Farms, Imlac, GA, next town S. of Gay, down GA 85. They're plentiful and really good. Get on down there and getusome.

He's what we call "challenged" in regards to things such as that.

Youall don't know the answer so you use a one-time peach stocking to say GA peaches are available in PTC!

They have not been generallt available and there have been plenty of them available from the orchards.

Why? Is my question?

Just say you don't know and don't care if that it is.

The real ones. I will tell you what a local told me years ago when we first moved here about Georgia Peaches. They don't grow well around here because it gets to cold in Winter. I believe that means in Spring it can freeze late and kill the fruit. You have to go South of the gnat line(Macon area) to get Good Georgia Peaches. The local told me all the good Peaches that are produced here in Georgia are shipped out of State and to Canneries. What is left are mostly seconds some good ones too I imagine. I heard the same about California Produce. The only option is to drive South of here to get a good tasting Peach. I would think you could get a good peach at the Farmers Market in Forest Park but if I did that I would just as soon take a nice Country ride South of here, less traffic.
I'm not a local, but makes sense to me...Hope this answers your question.

From Lane Orchards in S.GA for 88 cents a lb--they look really good.

Those are the "unripe" scrubs.

They sell the ones "marked" Georgia Peaches at extreme premiums!
Rest are named something else.

I know that song! I haven't heard it in a while, though. It reminds me of driving my daughter to Pike County to see her boyfriend. She had it on a cassette tape.

The song is from the 90's, I think. From a group called the Presidents of the United States. It was a quirky group

Quirky they were!! Remember "Kitty?" That song still cracks me up!! And it has a good beat, too!! ha ha ha!!!

I prefer SC peaches, but the GA locals sure are good this year! But you gotta bewilling to go gettum! Bonkie just doesn't realize that he could drive to Imlac, get some peaches AND tomatoes and then on the way back, stop at Williams Grocery in Haralson and pick up some of that mighty fine link sausage they make there--or bulk if you prefer.

When did you post---last year?

I don't want to burn more gas than the peaches are worth
My question is: Why doesn't Kroger, etc., carry them?
What's up?
Why doesn't Adam's Farm?

Ya'know, I'm convinced you don't really want peaches--you just want to complain. Adams Farm has had their own peaches to sell for at least 3 weeks--that tells me that you HAVEN'T BEEN THERE, but still you complain. I move around a lot and usually know where best fresh fruit & veggies can be had and like to share--with other fruit & veggie lovers WHO ARE SERIOUS! You, El Bonko, are not serious. If you are as old as you maintain, I'm pretty close (70 in August) and I'm positive I enjoy life a lot more than you seem to. Look alive Marino!

I don't want white peaches!!!!!! I said where are the GA peaches!!!!
They may be in Griffin or somewhere, I don't know, but not here.
Something is up.

the Peach Bulletin Board. In fact, after this post, you will become a Non-Entity for me. One last word of caution: those peaches in the grocery store labeled "Southern" that you don't know where they come from--I can tell you. They come from Southern Israel and are a non-kosher variety called "Peachus Porkus" and they export the entire crop. You can guess why. And now Shalom and bless your little peachless heart--may it long stay that way!

Well, I resolved the Georgia Peach situation myself. Since no one knew the answer for the local scarcity I researched it myself although I had much more important things to do with my research!

Someone just said here that Publix, today, had Georgia Peaches. They do NOT. Those are South Carolina Peaches at $.88 They also had some at $2.50 or so.
Two local stores think they got a few Georgia Peaches once this year but weren't sure. They think Georgia growers now sell to canners to get rid of them quickly.

Well, they do sell some to canners---the "scrub" peaches. The rest they sell at premium prices out of state. Many are sold as "gift boxes" on the Internet and with Magazine advertising. I know, I found it.

The get about $45 for a dozen packed up nicely.
This is a case of scarcity causing a product to sell as gifts for high prices.
They can not compete with chain stores buying "white" peaches that are lesser quality, Chile Peaches, California Peaches. etc.

We may get one more batch of Georgia Peaches from South Georgia within the next 2-3 weeks mostly of the scrub type--unless the gourmet sales faltered.

Obviously, Georgia for whatever reason let the Peach farming practically die.

I like yellow meat peaches the best too and haven't seen any so far. Someone told me a long time ago the best yellows, I believe he said, come the last two weeks of July. I haven't seen them either but I haven't been really looking for them. I forget every year..about the good ones at end of July. Maybe I will see if I can find some, now that you mentioned it...hope it isn't too late. Could have had a bad year for them, who knows.

I posted twice within the last 6 weeks re peaches--and tomatoes. And Kroger has had peaches from Lane Orchards/Farms in S. GA before. I got them at 79cents a lb. Adams Farm does have their own peaches, if you like white flesh peaches. Adams also has excellent tomatoes and you can get a whole box for 15.00--that works out to about 56cents a lb--excellent bargain.
