PTC's wonderful(?) landscaping company ...

DarkMadam's picture

Today I was going into the turning lane to make a left hand turn into the McDonald/Chick-Fil-A area and one of these wonderful people who were mowing (finally) decided to suddenly drive off the median and into my path on the street. It was all I could do not to hit him! He never even looked! Now, I am pretty sure that the signage that the GA DOT requires is not being properly adhered to and I for one plan to alert them to this. Have these employees had the same level of training regarding signage and how to properly proceed in public areas as the PTC employees were required to have? I don't think so. Today was the last straw. If there is no grass in the street...STAY OFF THE STREET... or at the very least use some common sense! If these employees can not do that it is time to get rid of them!

I'm always extra careful around ANY workers near the street. Sounds like you are too.

I think tru-green is doing a great job. There are a few areas around my neighborhood that used to get neglected and now they look excellent. As far as traffic incident the same thing could have happened with the PTC guys.

I mow an area adjacent to my property up to the corner the kids stand waiting for the bus. It was not cut in April, May and then in late June Tru Green showed up -- they are going to cut this area 3 times June, August and October ..

Imagine code enforcement if you cut you lawn every other month ???

Yes... it could have happened... But it didn't. Far as I can tell it never did.

I assume you mean it didn't happen to you?
How would you know whether it happened to the other 34,999?

I think those mowers are hired by the commercial establishments there, not the city.

Do you think the city is mowing route 54 median? That is a state road! As is 74.

The state and the county have practically stopped mowing the sides and center of the roads! Maybe we also should in hard times.

The city employs this sub-contractor and it is the citys job to see that they meet all GDOT guidlines for working on state roads and highways. My understanding is that if tru green does not follow the letter of the law either tru green or the city can be fined upto $10,000. The city had their employees complete classes with documentation showing they had completed and passed this training. Then they fired them all with the exception of Ken Williams who kissed just enough butt to be the only man left standing after the firings. He never missed a day. Even though his position was elimimated they approved and created another one for him. Supervisor to the tru green team. Time for things to be done by the letter of the law. We are not allowed to pick and choose what laws we will follow and which we will not. It's just that simple.

Did you happen to think to get a number off a truck or the mower, a definate time, and/or a definate location and possibly report this to Mr. Williams? You have not mentioned what his response was when you informed him of this. I am sure you are not still so bitter as to not allow for Mr. Williams to be able to do his job properly. I do believe that part of his job is to take and act upon complaints for the contractors that have been hired. Right? As a citizen of the city and one who appears to want to have a large voice in the city, I am sure that you would put the safety of the residents and visitors above your personal dislike for a specific person. I can understand your total disdain for Mr. Williams, so did you call the Publics Works office and just leave a message? Did you call City Hall and ask them to send a note/message to Public Works? Did you go to the city's web site and report a problem? Just Curious.

Is it just me or does it sound like you are close to this "Ken Williams"? At this point I don't believe that PTC officials care at all. Now would be a good time for the state to get involved and if things are not being done to state law specification let the fines begin. I too have spoke to the state a time or two about PTC issued on the roads and pretty much been told the same thing. PTC does whatever it wants and until enough people complain they can't do anything. Sad but true. I would not expect this Mr. Williams to have the magic bullet that would change any of that.

There are no numbers on the mower and there was no truck in sight, not to mention very little signage. It is not what is dictated in the Uniform Traffic Control Manual which is a national publication. When I was unable to reach Mr. Williams I called GDOT. The answer I got from them astounded me. I was told that Peachtree City is in their own "little bubble" and the state has never been able to "deal with" PTC and unless a citizen sues the city when an accident occurs their hands are tied. The laws are in place to attempt to prevent an accident from occurring. My comment that you questioned about Mr. Williams is more about the way things are done in this PTC and less about Mr. Williams. And yes I am about safety; however, I don't have to call Mr. Williams before filing a complaint with the state. By the way... The answer I received from the state really didn't set well with me, so my plan is to pop the bubble and see to it that the letter of the law is obeyed. EVEN IN PTC you can not pick and choose what laws you wish to follow. And ignorance of the law is not a legal defense. Don't you think that anyone concerned with the safety of others (not just themselves) should at least be afforded a chance to be heard?

a Ga DOT employee. You are taking the word of a person who works for the most mismanaged state dept. in Georgia??? This type of comment is not only ridiculous, it should NEVER be used in a phone conversation by ANY state employee.

Makes me wonder what YOU said leading up to this comment to get this state moron to make such a stupid statement.

Let's be clear here.....ANYONE would take "Peachtree City's little bubble and dealings" ANY day of the year over the fraud and mismanagement in the MILLIONS of OUR tax dollars that have just been exposed going on in GA DOT.

I left a message for GDOT last week. They just called me back this morning. All I asked him was about the proper DOT signage that is supposed to be used by all mowing/mulching/working on state roads and highways. He asked me to what I was speaking of and all I said was mowing etc. in PTC. That is when I got that comment. He referred me to his supervisor in the Griffin office and I have a call into them. All I want is the law to be followed. We just can not pick and choose what laws we want to follow. That is on all levels. I have not tried it but I bet a police officer would pass out laughing if anyone told him that they choose not to follow traffic laws and therefore was not subject to his ticketing. I never asked for a smart a$$ comment from the DOT worker, I just typed his answer. How in the world can you think that I deserved that answer? I was not the one that made the bubble comment. However, it kinda makes sense. Tax dollars are misspent by all levels of government (state and local), we all just have to do whatever we can to prevent it. I just really don’t wish for myself or anyone else to have an accident because the laws were not followed and then have to sue the city. Wouldn't that be a waste of tax dollars when it could have been avoided just by following the law to begin with?

the new part of 74 still in State DOT
Driving or walking out in front of traffic is not smart,,
posting traffic signs in both English and Spanish might be a help.

Submitted by PTCGOIL on Tue, 08/04/2009 - 12:52pm.

here that Latinos here can read Spanish. Not true, many cannot read ANY language.

The last time that you went to a Spanish speaking country did they provide road signs in English for you? If they want to come to OUR country and earn a living then they need to learn OUR language which the last time I looked was English! Quit pissing away good money and make them learn the native language, if you don't make it where they have to, they never will.

1st it's Jackyldo -- and I have lived and worked in 61 countries including Germany, Ireland, Japan.

The point of the sarcasm is that these are illegals cutting our grass.
Taking the money and repatriating most of it back to Mexico.

Yesterday 5 guys in Spanish T shirts were grabbing lunch at the Village store on the parkway at Robinson. They hoped into a brand new club cab all speaking spanish/mexican.. with Gwinett plates and pulling a trailer with yard equipment registered in Fulton.

There was a PTC cruiser in the lot idling,, asked him if anyone ever checked these guys documents, he said they did not enforece those laws that was up to ICE,,

Yawn I am not making it easier for them ,, I'd rather see Amricans doing the work.
