Depending upon the feds for GA water!

Is Georgia, a bastion of republican independency, actually going to Washington begging for water?

What do they want--some new dams? They cost upwards of 200 million, plus. They take many years to buy the land (if that is any longer possible) and build the things.

The intent of TVA dams and many others, such as Lanier, were built originally as a flood control and to help wash out pollution, and save species down stream in droughts!
Also for recreation when up.

Georgia simply didn't provide over the last 25-30 years for the water they were growing to need. They stole it from Lanier.

The democrats built those dams---no republican will ever build a dam dam!

The pipe line from Savannah could be here by now if it had started when Atlanta and Gwinnett started expanding! Desalizination works.

Also, we could have tapped the Tennessee River if we had done it before there was a scarcity!

NO NEW YAXES or BONDS, however, huh? Ceptin for tax relief of building here.

Lets play, you blame all this water stuff on the Republicans, never mind all the decades that the Dems held sway over this state, the whole water thing didn't start when Sonny took office, so when you start admitting that all the politicians had their heads up their behinds and start blaming equally, then I'll take you serious. You never answered the question, what's a yax?

If there has ever been a democrat in Georgia for the last forty years I don't know who it was!

Some used to call themselves that (Miller, for just one) but they were ultra right democrats! Virginia and other states had the same kind of government---democrats written on the ballot---republicans in congress.

When the "minorities" began to obtain voting power is mostly when they really changed their affiliation!

Now another group of minorities is causing them to further split into right-wing and moderate republicans! The END of the old GOP.

The moment they pretended to "get religion" they started failing.

Government is nasty. Has nothing to do with religion! How are we to deal with the rest of the world who are not Christians and far outnumber us if we put in a religious right all of the time?

As to Sonny and a dam for more water-----I suppose he thought the developers of Georgia would build one or two!

"If there has ever been a democrat in Georgia for the last forty years I don't know who it was!"

Do the names Tom Murphy and Roy Barnes ring any bells???? They sure as hell weren't ours.....

Submitted by Bonkers on Mon, 07/27/2009 - 6:14pm.

Barnes looks like a sho-in to me.

I don't know if say Illinois Democrats would call Roy a democrat or not--I doubt it.

I heard Oxendine say once at a dinner that he would try to have the state take over Atlanta just as Florida did Miami once, and run it as a lost cause!
That will get him a lot of votes from certain quarters.

Anyway I tested him once on helping with an insurance company who sells big life insurance policies that begin to have humongus monthly payments when the owner gets to be 65, even bigger at 70, even bigger at 75 and cancelled at 80.

Those facts are impossible to find in the original policy.

His answer: hey, that is the kind of policy it is and it is OK with me!

What has he done about all those businesses who burn their places for the insurance? Know anyone put into jail? Of course not. He is ineffective.

Why does the same guy keep running for Lt. Governor in Georgia all of the time?
Didn't Zell run 63 times? He was keynoter for W. Bush wasn't he?

I don't know anything about Tom Murphy except you could call him and actually talk to him personally!

"Barnes looks like a sho-in to me."

Yeah, I wouldn't get all crazy and start trying to get the mothball smell out of your Sunday-go-to-meeting lime green leisure suit quite yet. I know you'd love to attend Roy's coronation again, but you might check the 2002 polls one more time. Prior to the election his lead was around 49-42%. He lost to Purdue 52-46%. Some memories are not all that short around here. His arrogance and bullying turned a lot of people off. But, it worked out ok for him. Last I saw he was charging several hundred per hour for legal work.

"I don't know anything about Tom Murphy except you could call him and actually talk to him personally!"

I'll tell you what I remember about Tom Murphy. He single-handedly controlled every piece of legislation that ever came up in this state for decades. Good riddance.

Not to mention Cynthia McKinney or Valencia Seay, I believe Cy's state Rep is a Dem, and Lord knows Atlanta is loaded with all those republicans.

Dare we bypass Jimmy Carter and Sam Nunn? While Sam was surely a conservative Dem, he was true to the party----until it just got too much for him to swallow and he had to exit in the honorable way.

as former chair of the Fayette County Democratic Party {and yes there is one}, I would have to say that both parties have left the fold of representing "the people" and have completely gone over to the side of supporting corporate welfare on a grand national scale. How much of the so-called "stimulus money" has anyone or anyone you have known personally seen? The entire Iraq thing was fought so that the money-grubbing corporations could fatten their larders at the cost to the US taxpayer. Oh, it sounded good to tell the citizens that we were fighting them over there so we would not have to fight them over here, but in the end, it was all about corporate welfare. Fat guys on Wall Street got fatter by foisting off unsecured loans on public pensions funds. {I read recently that CountryWide was actually offering a 108% mortgage...108%...where is the fiscal responsibility of THAT?} and it doesn't matter which of the two parties you support or damn. Check out where the large bulk of the billions of dollars that our current President raised for his campaign came from. I will give you a hint...it wasn't the "little guy". The water issue will be solved when some corporation figures out how to make a quick buck from the consumers of the states involved. Keep the faith.

Even a dead fish can go with the flow.

She gone! Folded her tent. Abandoned her post. Ticked off. People picked upon her and hers! Instead of honoring our soldiers the press picked upon her kids, (I don't know what "honoring" of soldiers had to do with Bristol and em!), said she did things unnatural and illegal.

Now there may be enough stupid people to pay to hear her say: Alaskan values (oil), family values (Todd), trooper values (sister), socialized payments to Alaskan citizens from oil, refusing to stay at the capitol and billing the state for taking family there and back sometimes, (why did she run), stocking up on fancy clothes for free--then pretend they were to be given away, made a fool out of McCain by not shutting up after he had committed, shooting elk out of helicopters--usually leaving them--then saying we eat so we hunt and kill, on and on......
Good way to end the GOP, I say.

She swam like a dead fish most of the time--drifted but verbal. She belongs to the Quail family of VPs (she, near),was just the one to solve all of the current problems Bush made, foreign and domestic, although I suppose if she had succeeded McCain (if elected) for some reason, they would have made her disappear someway!
i'm sure though she could have supervised the spending of the TARP Bush passed, opened another Guantanamo somewhere, Stopped the butchery in Iraq, won Afghanistan over to Christianity and democracy, and certainly straightened out Russia (she can see them from there), and Pakistan and Syria, and North Korea!

Maybe we could have just prayed for her.

Just the mere fact that you predict the end of the GOP assures me it will be around forever.

Exactly like "The One" has made Biden the plagiarizer disappear, right? What is he up to these days? Attending building dedications in Yazoo, MS and teaching writing courses on the side? Or using those killer medical benefits for a new crop of hair plugs? I miss him.
