I feel for your friend w/ the interest hike in credit cards. Most of my card accounts, I've had for years and had always stayed on top of them paying @ the very least the minumum and paying them on time. I had a hysterectomy a year ago followed by three more minor surgeries and am currently recovering from hernia surgery. After being out of work w/ the hyst. I got a month behind and BAM - 33% interest. Now I'm just treading water trying to stay afloat. Usually my boss, who lives not too far from me, will follow me home. He even waits until I'm inside my home to pull off. Maybe we should just carpool - he's really a great person but I shudder at the thought of carpooling with my boss. LOL. I guess, as a woman who was victimized 20 years ago (by 3 white guys - crime comes in all colors), I have spent most of my adult life being cautious, ie: always keeping a full tank of gas, never leaving a beverage unattended, never parking next to a van in a parking lot, etc. For now, I concede that I could put my 'top-up' philosophy aside until the shortage has passed and I believe it will be resolved soon.

America, we have reached the point of no return! The government of the United States is about to embark on a course that will prove to be ruinous for our country. This morning, Congress is jubilantly announcing a tentative agreement on the Wall Street bailout plan. The plan, if approved this week by the full Congress and signed by the President, is a betrayal of the constitutional oath taken by our leaders. It is a violation of the public trust and an extreme abuse of the fiduciary responsibilities that each member of Congress and the President has to the American people. In short, any member of Congress who votes for the measure is guilty of treason and should be dealt with accordingly.

I agree, part of the hysteria has been created and is almost as stupid as running out to buy bread when some snow falls from the sky.

There is certaintly plenty of blame to go around regarding our current financial crisis.
