Nitpickers: Call Off The Dogs

Lots of complaining only for a year
Then suddenly in 2008, dogs were loose,
No houses were selling, no loans appear,
The funniest thing on TV was Sarah's moose.

Spear Road Guy: Protest No Votes In My Early Voting

Spear Road Guy's picture

I didn't vote for several of the candidates who had no competition out of protest!

More people ought to skip those races on the ballot to show the losers we don't want to put up with their crap. Maybe they'll get the message.

DarthDubious: Bleak Outlook After Bailout: Only Harm for the Middle Class

DarthDubious's picture

Ronald Reagan said, “Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it”. Even before Bush’s Big Bank Bailout Bill was passed by Congress we were in the “subsidize it” phase of the cycle. We have been told by our “leaders” that more subsidizing through the bailout legislation is in the best interest of the millions of Americans in the middle class. It was done to preserve our savings accounts, education and retirement funds and to help small business in securing the necessary loans they need to survive. It was done to rescue us from economic calamity.

ManofGreatLogic: Why can't a local newspaper find balance?

ManofGreatLogic's picture

I'll start by stating that I'm a PRO LIFE liberal white man who intends to vote for Obama.

Why aren't there any editorials in this newspaper supporting a liberal point of view?

MacTheKnife: Military says we want McCain by a 45% margin...

Despite the media indoctrination of many simple minded liberals, the free thinking military members are backing the Senator from Arizona and the Governor of Alaska by an extremely wide margin (45% points).

Nitpickers: HT solve our current problems

What is needed: Borrow more for our infrastructure; Borrow more for Social Security; Borrow more for the Health Care of the Boomers. Cost? It doesn't matter.

meanoldconservatives: Article in today's AJC on McCain/Obama tax policies

meanoldconservatives's picture

While reading this morning's paper I skimmed by the editorial section and something caught my eye. I have to admit nothing there normally does since Tucker and Bookman opine there. This op/ed was written by that very same Jay Bookman, so you know which way it leans. It is entitled "A wealth of difference in two tax-cut plans". You can read it yourself or I'll save you the time by telling you he thinks Barry's plan is best. Front page headline shock there as it came from the AJC editorial board.

The Shadow: The Age of Greed is Finally Over

The collapse of the national financial system has killed Americans ability to get credit. But the after effects will be with us for a long time.

It's so easy to say what someone should have done isn't it. You don't think that thought hasn't crossed Mandel's mind? Until you have walked in someone else's shoes I would keep that opinion to yourself.

Bonkers: Republican Grammar

I thought I knew what double-speak was until today.
A considerable number of republican congressional representatives just this week voted no on the bail-out bill, saying it was socialistic and way too much money.

darbeyogill: Palin Not Qualified as V.P. Says Who????

Who says Sarah is not qualified to be V.P. Consider this that was sent to me by relatives in Alaska...and then consider who Obama's friends are Past and present...such as Willam Ayers Saul D. Alinsky and then there is Rev. Wright...20 years of listening to him "Damn America and Obama doesn't leave until it becomes political baggage for him "Tell me who you walk with and I will tell you who you are".

Bonkers: Looks like those republicans who voted no on bailout

the first go-around now want to get up and say, "well, I voted NO for such a horrible spending plan, first time, I want you to be sure and know that in November, but today I must do the opposite (as I planned to begin with) and vote YES in the big bail-out."

gelato: CONNIVING FCBOE - PEOPLE TAKE A STANCE!

gelato's picture

I cannot even describe the appalling disgust I feel for the FCBOE at this moment. Not only are they using different meetings at schools in the county as a platform to push SPLOST, but now they are showing up at Homeowner's Association meetings trying to brainwash our county into believing how beneficial the SPLOST will be for our children, grandchildren, community, etc.

dawn69: Wow, Darth

Your post was extremely informative. In college I minored in history and art history and though my concentration was in ancient civilizations (I can hold my own in a discussion about Summerian seals, Babylon, Rome, etc.) I do remember studying the Depression - cause and effect. Though I am not as knowledgeable as you appear to be on this topic, some of that 'learnin' must have stuck in my subconscience. Like you, I have had a sinking feeling in my stomach. It's like that moment on a roller coaster when you've just topped the highest hill and you take in a deep breath and pray.

DarthDubious: The Root Cause of the "Financial Meltdown."

DarthDubious's picture

1775: the American Revolutionary War began. America sought to detach from England and its oppressive monarchy. Though many reasons are cited for the Revolution, one in particular sticks out as the prime cause: that King George III of England outlawed the interest free, independent currency the Colonies were producing and using for themselves, in turn forcing them to borrow money from the central “Bank of England”, at interest, immediately putting the Colonies into debt, and as Benjamin Franklin later wrote:

dawn69: David's Mom

dawn69's picture

'69 was the year I was born. It was the year my teenage parents graduated highschool, had me, dad went off to war, and came home to work 2 - 3 jobs to support his family. Yeah, I guess I had some pretty good teachers. I just learned at an early age that surviving is hard but the rewards are great. My mom once rolled all the change she'd been saving for something special for herself but bought my prom dress instead.

sniffles5: Prepared speeches vs. off-the-cuff

sniffles5's picture

There's been a number of dyspeptic posts made on the Citizen blogs about Barack Obama's non-prepared speech rhetoric. On a scale of one to ten (ten high), Obama's prepared speeches often hit the 9+ mark, he's that good. His extemporaneous speaking skills are not as high, maybe in the 6 or 7 range. Obama has a choppy cadence in off-the-cuff.
