AJC rails against Smola/Smith state constitutional amendment

The officers of the Smola/Smith/Wright Development company (doing business as "The Fayette County Board of Education") were undoubtedly aghast to see an editorial in today's AJC criticizing their most cherished dream.

It seems there is a question on the November ballot as to whether to amend the state constitution to allow local school boards to issue bonds to buy, sell and speculate in real estate under the guise of "community redevelopment"....it does away with the sham of even pretending this for education purposes. It's nothing more than a power grab for BOE members.

One can imagine the likes of Janet Smola and Terri Smith licking their chops at the prospect of yet another source of public funds to mismanage.
