I never agreed with William F. Buckley's political ideology, however, I always respected the man... maybe because I grew up with his image, constantly blasting from my parents t.v. set back in the 1960's, while they listened intently to "Firing Line" and also that unforgettable on-air debate he had with Gore Vidal, which can still be viewed on YouTube. I met his brother, Reid Buckley, in Charleston recently at his book signing for "An American Family-The Buckley's" and he is the spitting image of him (we had to do a double-take because we knew William F. had recently passed away).

I was speaking with someone this morning and during our conversation, the following idea was raised. Before you flame me for these comments just understand that this is nothing more then some food for thought and would be asking the same questions if the tables were turned .

McCain has not changed his mind on Privatizing Social Security. We have only to look on this past week as an example of what Stocks can and will do over time. They are not a dependable source of income. It is "Gambling" with our Future if Social Security is Privatized.

So, I cannot think of a better time than today to bring up, and maybe discuss in Congress the desire by Bush to privatize Social Security by putting all of the funds in our accounts into the stock market.

I watched the Debate and I tried to remain unbiased, but as we all know, we are to one degree or another going to see things through the world view we all have.

Yesterday, McCain came out blasting his guns at SEC chair Christopher Cox, saying he should be fired immediately, and then today, McCain cools his heels a bit over Cox and in his statement, along with plugging the book he wrote, starts yammering about Eisenhower and the invasion of Normandy. He is trapped in a mental, military time warp and can't get his brain around the current economic problems facing our country without invoking some reference to the military or battlefield. (McCain: "Let's all take off our civilian hats and put on our military helmets"). Most every speech or townhall gathering includes war and battle references - "fighting" and "bombing", Normandy and Eisenhower, P.O.W. camps and torture, "I've fought worse enemies", he's the only candidate who has "really fought for you." He has no grasp of current affairs and relates every crisis we are facing, economic-social-fiscal, to the damn battlefield or a P.O.W. camp. He has truly lost his bearings.

We have endured a lot of campaign chatter about the presidential election. There has been some talk about our Senate races, but not much.

Is it my TV or does the image of George Bush in his latest TV appearances make him out to look a bit haggard and weak? Knowing that that the strains of the office can be difficult, it looks almost like he has started drinking again.

It seems that the McCain/Palin ticket has suddenly embraced the message of "change" and "reform" in Washington, repeatedly citing Palin's record as Governor, regarding "earmark reform." The lies that these two continue to feed the voting public is stunning.
