Obama won debate #2. This was supposed to be McCain's triumphant hour, remember those who said the "town hall" format was McCain's specialty? Obama took it right to him. McCain seemed tired and cranky...I wanted to give him a cookie and a juice box.

Interestingly, for all the venom that McCain has been spreading on the campaign trail, he had the golden opportunity last night to air his complaints about Obama and Wright/Reckzo/Ayers...and he didn't. I guess McCain lacked the courage to make those accusations directly to Obama's face.

I shudder to think what Mrs. Mean Mouth is going to have to say about this on her campaign stops tomorrow. (For those of you who read George Orwell's 1984, don't her appearances more and more remind you of the Two Minute Hate?)

....now 52% to McCain's 41%

Plus, according to Pollster.com, Colorado, New Mexico, Florida and New Hampshire have now turned BLUE, and Obama is leading in Virginia and tied in North Carolina.

Is the fat lady warming up to sing?

I've watched both debates and every answer sounds rehearsed and most of the time they don't even answer the question thats asked. They both are so intent on getting the same ol same ol across they ignore the question. They have both lost in my opinion. Where are the real American heros when we need one so badly??

Give me specifics please on how Obama won the debate. You have got to be kidding me. McCain did call Oprah's Choice out for his lack of experience, his failure to foresee the problems with Fannie Mae, his willingness to sit down with (and legitimize) thug dictators, his desire to tax small business, his naivete in wanting to attack "Pock"-istan (wouldn't want to disrespect O's dialect), etc. He did stay too much on the high road. After all there is a lot of dirty sludge he could have thrown at O. I did find McCain to be direct, focused, and aggressive. Obama rambled so much it was funny. It would be interesting to read the transcript to see exactly how much of what O said made absolutely no sense.

All of the polling except FOX will agree with these results:

A majority said Obama seemed to be the stronger leader during the debate, 54 percent to 43 percent, and by a more than 2-to-1 ratio -- 65 percent to 28 percent -- viewers thought Obama was more likable during the debate.

Obama picks up second debate win, poll says

On the question of who won the debate, a CBS News/Knowledge Networks poll of uncommitted voters found a similar result. Forty percent said Obama won, 26 percent said McCain won, and 34 percent thought it was a tie.

Immediately after the debate, CBS News interviewed a nationally representative sample of 516 debate watchers assembled by Knowledge Networks who were "uncommitted voters" - voters who are either undecided about who to vote for or who say they could still change their minds. Forty percent of these uncommitted debate watchers said Obama won the debate, 26 percent said John McCain won, and another 34 percent thought it was a tie.

Uncommitted Voters Favor Obama

SurveyUSA shows polls from California and Washington. Obama won the debate in California voters' eyes 56% to 26. In Washington Obama wins the poll of those who watched the debate 54% to 29.

MediaCurves in a poll of 1001 people reports that Republicans thought McCain won the debate 68 to 20; Democrats thought Obama won the debate 84 to 10; Independents thought Obama won the debate 52 to 34.

I'm not surprised to hear that you feel that McCain won. I'd expect no different from you...nor do I suspect you are the least bit surprised to learn that I felt Obama won.

The tiebreaker therefore goes to the "independents". From what I've read last night and today, the undecided independents overwhelmingly broke for Obama in a major way.

The "town hall" setup was supposed to be McCain's forum. But, apparently, the town hall format only works for McCain when he's surrounded by adoring Republicans.

I think this is one of those debates where more people will think Obama won as time goes by. The sound bites work against McCain as does his demeanor. He really doesn't like Obama and he doesn't have the temperament to hide his disdain. McCain is simply not very presidential at all -- and just plain unlikeable.

So, I suspect you Republicans will be going to go thermonuclear now. You guys have got nothing going for you. Nothing. So, you'll make it even uglier. The traditional media will dutifully report the smears as if it's real news. It won't work. But, that's what we should expect. And I suspect Mrs. Mean Mouth will be leading the smear brigades.

Prosecutors Seek to Delay Sentencing of Tony Rezko
Tuesday, October 07, 2008

CHICAGO — Federal prosecutors moved Monday to delay indefinitely the sentencing of convicted fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko, sending their strongest hint yet that he is ready to spill his political secrets.

The filing asks for a postponement while prosecutors and defense attorneys "engage in discussions that could affect their sentencing postures."

Speculation has simmered for weeks that the key fundraiser for Gov. Rod Blagojevich and Sen. Barack Obama was whispering what he knows about corruption in Illinois government to federal prosecutors in hopes of getting a lighter sentence.

Rezko raised more than $1 million for Blagojevich's campaign fund and was one of the governor's key advisers. He was frequently by the governor's side in the early days of his administration and could be in a position to shed considerable light on federal investigations into patronage hiring and a host of other issues involving Blagojevich.

The governor has not been charged with wrongdoing. A spokesman did not immediately respond to an e-mail message after business hours seeking comment.

U.S. District Judge Amy J. St. Eve had set Sept. 3 as a firm date for sentencing Rezko on his conviction for launching a $7 million scheme to use his clout with the Blagojevich administration to squeeze kickbacks out of a contractor and seven money management firms wanting to do business with the state. Then she postponed the sentencing date to Oct. 28.

RelatedStories
Courtroom Wire: Notes From Tony Rezko's Corruption Trial Federal prosecutors filed a three-paragraph brief late Monday asking for that date to be stricken and the sentencing postponed indefinitely. The wording left little doubt that Rezko offered enough to make the government consider some sort of sentencing break.

Federal spokesman Randall Samborn declined to comment on the latest development. Defense attorneys Joseph Duffy and William Ziegelmueller did not immediately respond to office voicemails left late Monday.

Two attorneys familiar with the investigation, speaking only on condition of anonymity because grand jury matters are secret, said last week that federal prosecutors were contacting the lawyers of a number of campaign contributors and others with information that only Rezko could have given them. One of the lawyers said it was plain the prosecutors were laying the groundwork for questioning Rezko further.

One of the matters that prosecutors have been interested in learning is who paid for the renovation of Blagojevich's Chicago home. Rezko's now defunct Chicago Construction Services was the contractor on the project. One person familiar with the renovation contacted Monday afternoon, speaking only on condition of anonymity because of grand jury secrecy, said he was subpoenaed by federal prosecutors and asked about the project.

"They were looking for basic business dealings, who paid, how much, that sort of thing," he said. He said the governor's wife, Patti, paid the bill.

At Rezko's trial in May, former state employee Ali Ata, who got his job as head of the Illinois Finance Authority from Blagojevich through Rezko, testified as the government's surprise witness that he had to provide $25,000 to Rezko to pay contractors who were threatening to put a lien on the house if the bill was not paid. Ata earlier pleaded guilty to tax fraud and lying to the FBI about how Rezko got him his job.

Besides bankrolling a large portion of Blagojevich's campaign, Rezko raised substantial funds for Obama's past campaigns in Illinois — although none for his current presidential run.

Obama's campaign says it has sent to charity $159,000 traceable to Rezko's past fundraising.

While Blagojevich was frequently mentioned at Rezko's trial, the testimony rarely touched on Obama, who has been accused of no wrongdoing.

Unmentioned at the trial was a purchase by Rezko's wife, Rita, of property adjacent to the Obama home near the University of Chicago on the city's South Side. Obama and his wife, Michelle, purchased their home the same day that Rezko's wife closed on her property. And she later sold some of her property to the Obamas to enlarge their lot. Obama later said that allowing Rezko to do what appeared to be a favor was a "bonehead" move.

Rezko was convicted in June of mail fraud, wire fraud, attempted extortion and money laundering. Several of the charges carry 20-year maximum sentences and while Rezko would not be expected to served that much time for a first offense he is still looking at the possibility of years in federal prison. A deal with prosecutors could reduce his time considerably.

Moreover, Rezko faces the prospect of a second trial early next year on federal charges of swindling the General Electrical Capital Corp. out of $10 million in the sale of a group of pizza restaurants.

And beyond that, by his own account his is running out of money and an arrest warrant has been issued in Las Vegas accusing him of failing to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in casino bills.

ACORN Vegas Office Raided in Voter Fraud Investigation
ACORN's Las Vegas headquarters has been raided by Nevada authorities looking for evidence of voter fraud.

FOXNews.com

Tuesday, October 07, 2008

Nevada state authorities seized records and computers Tuesday from the Las Vegas office of an organization that tries to get low-income people registered to vote, after fielding complaints of voter fraud.

Bob Walsh, spokesman for the Nevada secretary of state's office, told FOXNews.com the raid was prompted by ongoing complaints about "erroneous" registration information being submitted by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also called ACORN.

The group was submitting the information through a voter sign-up drive known as Project Vote.

"Some of them used nonexistent names, some of them used false addresses and some of them were duplicates of previously filed applications," Walsh said, describing the complaints, which largely came from the registrar in Clark County, Nev.

Secretary of State Ross Miller said the fraudulent registrations included forms for the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys football team.

"Tony Romo is not registered to vote in the state of Nevada, and anybody trying to pose as Terrell Owens won't be able to cast a ballot on Nov. 4," Miller said.

Walsh said agents from both the secretary of state's office and Nevada attorney general's office conducted the raid at 9:30 a.m. local time, and "took a bunch of stuff." Miller's office reported seizing eight computer hard drives and about 20 boxes of documents.

Bertha Lewis, interim chief organizer for ACORN, released a statement saying the group has for months been turning over any suspicious registration information to elections officials. She said those officials routinely ignored their tips, and called the raid a "stunt."

"When we have identified suspicious applications, we have separated them out and flagged them for election officials. We have zero tolerance for fraudulent registrations. We immediately dismiss employees we suspect of submitting fraudulent registrations," she said. "Today's raid by the secretary of state's office is a stunt that serves no useful purpose other than discredit our work registering Nevadans and distracting us from the important work ahead of getting every eligible voter to the polls."

Neither the group, which hires canvassers to register voters, nor any employees have been charged or arrested for fraud or other crimes, said Miller, a Democrat.

But it's not the first time ACORN's been under investigation for registration irregularities. The raid is the latest of at least nine investigations into possible fraudulent voter registration forms submitted by ACORN -- the probes have involved ACORN workers in Wisconsin, New Mexico, Indiana and other states.

In response to the Las Vegas raid, Republican Nevada Sen. John Ensign and seven other senators penned a letter to the Federal Housing Finance Agency calling for the suspension of taxpayer dollars to "controversial groups like ACORN." The letter referred to contributions that potentially could come from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac under the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008.

In 2006, ACORN also committed what Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed called the "worse case of election fraud" in the state's history.

In the case, ACORN submitted just over 1,800 new voter registration forms, and all but six of the 1,800 names were fake.

More recently, 27,000 registrations handled by the group from January to July 2008 "went into limbo because they were incomplete, inaccurate, or fraudulent," said James Terry, chief public advocate at the Consumers Rights League.

FOX News' Eric Shawn, Judson Berger and Cristina Corbin and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Last September there was a joint Congressional hearing before the Judiciary Subcommittee and the House Administration Subcommittee on Elections. The hearing was on the "Federal, State and Local efforts to Prepare for the General 2008 Election". One of the people who testified was James Terry, Chief Public Advocate for the Consumers Rights League. He was there to testify on the "activities of organizations that style themselves as consumer advocates".

Well Sky, guess who he was there to discuss??? Well, none other than ACORN. Here are just a few of "ACORN's Greatest Hits" that were discussed:

In July, Pennsylvania officials charged a former ACORN employee with 19 counts of perjury, making false statements, forgery and identity theft in connection with the voter registration forms in connection with more than 100 suspect cards.

In August, ACORN was forced to announce that it would begin running background checks on its signature gatherers in New Mexico after it was learned that nine employees had felony criminal records ranging from forgery to identity theft to child rape.

ACORN's voter registration fraud in New Mexico has been a recurring theme since 2003, including its 2004 attempt to register a 13-year-old boy. In 2005 the organizations employees were accused of filing as many as 3,000 false signatures on a ballot initiative.

In Ohio, ACORN's continuing pattern of voter registration fraud apparently includes the 73 registration cards turned in this year for just one individual.

One submitted a card for a dead voter. That was the second such case; a Voters Project worker previously submitted a card for a deceased voter.

One woman reportedly complained that a voter registration card was submitted for her husband, who had been dead for 10 years.

And on, and on, and on....

By the way, look at the members of Congress he testified to and then try to control your amazement that nothing is ever done about it.

The loser (only 1 o in there) did show his oratorical skills and his empty head all at the same time. Mc Cain continues to be a wimp - why he doesn't go at him aggressively on all of Obama's obvious flaws (none of which have anything to do with race, by the way) is a mystery to me. It makes me wish for Richard Nixon - just during the campaign of course.

This Rezco thing combined with the true role of ACORN in our current financial mess could knock 10 points off The Messiah's lead. Given that there are between 5 and 8 points in his lead already that are bleeding heart socially correct on race Gen X'ers when asked by a pollster, but will vote anti-black on election day, we could be looking at McCain even winning the popular vote - maybe even over 50%.

On the other hand, the press will do everything it can to suppress the duplicity and dishonesty of its chosen candidate and the crowd that gets their only news from Mary Hart will fall right in line and vote for Mr. Change.

Obama’s Real-Estate Bust
He did for Illinois taxpayers what shady mortgage lenders have done for the economy.

By David Freddoso

Last week, Sen. Barack Obama compared the Savings and Loan bailout of the late 1980s to the situation of the mortgage-securities markets today:

Too many S&Ls took advantage of the lax rules set by Washington to gamble that they could make big money in speculative real estate. . . . [T]hey made hundreds of billions in bad loans, knowing that if they lost money, the government would bail them out. And they were right. The gambles did not pay off, our economy went into recession, and the taxpayers ended up footing the bill. Sound familiar?

Indeed, it does sound familiar — it sounds a lot like what Barack Obama did to Illinois taxpayers as a state senator in Springfield. Using his elected office and his clout, Obama helped Tony Rezko and other unscrupulous low-income housing developers obtain millions of dollars in state grants, tax credits, low-interest loans, and regulatory advantages.

Taxpayers had no serious chance of recouping these “investments” in Rezko and other developers. And many beneficiaries went one step farther, depriving the public of even the benefits they could have gotten. These developers took government help to build low-income housing, and then let their buildings deteriorate into uninhabitable slums.

To date, the most complete account of this sad story is Binyamin Appelbaum’s piece in the Boston Globe. Not only does it demonstrate the monumental failure of the low-income-housing policy that Obama vocally championed as a state senator, it gives a detailed look at how some of Obama’s donors and friends — the beneficiaries of that policy — neglected their own housing developments at the expense of the inhabitants.

There is no indication that Obama approved (or even knew) of the massive and systemic neglect of these properties in his own state-senate district. But there is also no question that he was an enabler in these transactions. He cosponsored at least six bills to give special tax breaks, tax credits, building-and-maintenance subsidies, and zoning exemptions to the developers. In 1998, he wrote letters to state and city officials requesting $14 million for a project developed by Tony Rezko and another close Obama friend — the politician’s old law-firm boss, Allison Davis.

In his Globe piece, Appelbaum describes the low-income Grove Parc Plaza complex, which was developed by Davis:

Sewage backups seem to be a common problem in Davis’s low-income slums — another of his buildings, Appelbaum reports, was cited in 2007 “after chronic plumbing failures resulted in raw sewage spilling into several apartments.”

Valerie Jarrett, Obama’s campaign adviser and the subject of a recent fawning interview by Katie Couric, is the chief executive of the company that managed that Grove Parc slum until just recently. Appelbaum writes that her company managed another housing complex until its condition became so poor that the federal government seized it in 2006.

Cecil Butler, another Obama donor, had his Lawndale Restoration complex confiscated by the government in 2006 “after city inspectors found more than 1,800 code violations.”

Appelbaum’s piece gives some sense of just how closely Obama was, and still is, tied to the slum-lord world. He’s taken contributions from its big players and pushed legislation favorable to them. His closest ally in that sphere has been Rezko, who raised $250,000 for Obama’s campaigns before being convicted on unrelated corruption charges earlier this year.

Rezko had been leveraging his fundraising abilities to win alliances with other politicians long before Obama got his start. He applied for his first subsidized-housing loan from the City of Chicago six days after Mayor Richard M. Daley’s election in 1989. Within the first six years of Daley’s reign, Rezko’s company, Rezmar, received $24 million in government loans and $8.5 million in federal tax credits. Over the following decade, it would rake in more than $100 million in loans from the city, state, and federal governments, as well as private bank loans to fix up 30 Chicago buildings for low-income public housing.

Despite all this cheap and free taxpayer money, all of Rezko’s 30 buildings eventually ran into financial difficulties. As of 2007, 17 had gone into foreclosure. Six were boarded up and abandoned.

The City of Chicago sued Rezmar at least a dozen times for failing to heat its properties. During the winter of 1997, Rezmar claimed it lacked the funds to heat a 31-unit building in Englewood on the south side of Chicago — one of eleven Rezmar buildings in Obama’s state-senate district. Tenants there went without heat from late December 1996 through mid-February 1997. Despite his company’s financial hardship, Rezko signed a $1,000 check for the campaign fund of the newly elected state senator Barack Obama on January 14, 1997.

When Barack Obama talks about risky real-estate investments and failures of government oversight, remember how he put Illinois taxpayers on the hook for some of the worst real-estate investments of all — investments in his close friend and in other slum landlords who took the public’s money and betrayed their trust.

Dick Morris, a former Clinton Adviser said this morning that McCain outperformed Obama. Morris did go on to say though that McCain failed to deliver the knockout blow he needed for his campaign to regain momentum.

McCain had the golden opportunity? The questions were pre-screened by Tom Brokaw and company. Doesn't sound like a golden opportunity to me? Maybe we should allow the audience to ask the real questions and not let the left wing media control what is going to be asked!

Obama won on almost every question. He will be the clear winner in the polls. He not only won the debate outright, but McCain was unable to change the subject from the economy, a double lose for McCain. Only republicans will be able to claim a McCain win here, purely for political reasons. Everybody else will say it was a great night for Obama. Independents, undecideds, everybody will give it to Obama. Watch the polls.
