William F. Buckley's son endorses Obama today...

I never agreed with William F. Buckley's political ideology, however, I always respected the man... maybe because I grew up with his image, constantly blasting from my parents t.v. set back in the 1960's, while they listened intently to "Firing Line" and also that unforgettable on-air debate he had with Gore Vidal, which can still be viewed on YouTube. I met his brother, Reid Buckley, in Charleston recently at his book signing for "An American Family-The Buckley's" and he is the spitting image of him (we had to do a double-take because we knew William F. had recently passed away).

The son, Christopher Buckley was a speech writer for Bush senior, during his administration, and has always leaned towards political conservatism, having voted for George W. Bush in 2000. Christopher seems to be an eloquent writer, just like his father, and puts into words what so many conservative thinkers are now realizing about John McCain and his derailed campaign:

"This campaign has changed John McCain. It has made him inauthentic. A once-first class temperament has become irascible and snarly; his positions change, and lack coherence; he makes unrealistic promises, such as balancing the federal budget “by the end of my first term.” Who, really, believes that? Then there was the self-dramatizing and feckless suspension of his campaign over the financial crisis. His ninth-inning attack ads are mean-spirited and pointless. And finally, not to belabor it, there was the Palin nomination. What on earth can he have been thinking?"

"SORRY DAD, I'M VOTING FOR OBAMA"

My garbage man is supporting Bob Barr.In my opinion, these endorsements, especially those from Hollywood celebrities, insult the intelligence of American voters. Surely we can think for ourselves.Every day I get e-mails with obnnoxious recordings, editorials, and comments about all candidates. Yeserday I received a vile editorial written in a London newspaper. I don't care what the Brits think. This is my country.
Voters, I encourage you to use well documented facts to support your vote.Make a list of what is important to you. e.g. national security, the economy, Iraq, death penalty, abortion , stem cell research, jobs, etc. Then find the candidate who most matches your views.Forget
colleges attended, class standing, long ago events and endorsements. They are not important.General George Patton graduated in the bottom of his class at West Pount.

Patton: Thank God he had the wisdom not to run for president!

It wasn't wisdom that kept him from running, he died in late 1945 from injuries sustained in an auto accident.

I find both of the candidates to be "inauthentic." In order to be a front-runner on the national level, you have to make unrealistic promises. Neither candidate, especially with this economy, can accomplish any of their grand schemes on any issue. There is no funding available.

McCain will introduce his economic plan today. It will be interesting to see what he has to say.
