McCain befuddles us again

On the campaign trail in Jacksonville, Florida, the Senator declared this morning that "the fundamentals of our economy are strong," despite what he described as "tremendous turmoil in our financial markets and Wall Street."

The line may seem like GOP boilerplate, save for the fact that this morning, the McCain campaign released a television ad that began: "Our economy is in crisis." Moreover, with financial and job markets in disarray, and with Lehman Brothers, the troubled investment bank, filing for bankruptcy, it may not be the wisest political message to tell voters that the fundamentals are a-okay.

On Sunday, former fed chairman Alan Greenspan said the market was the worst he had ever witnessed and predicted another major bank would close soon. Meanwhile, inflation is rising, real wages are declining, and the problems in the housing market persist.

McCain acknowledged, to various degrees, these topics in his Monday morning speech.

"I promise you we will never put America in this position again," McCain said. "This is a failure.

John you guys have run the country the past 12 years and deregulated the financial markets, gave working people no bankruptcy protection and allow the banks to charge 30 % credit card interest.

You put us in this position NOW - Grampy and don't even realize it.

There are many to choose from.

Offshore drilling = the ban on offshore drilling ends Oct.1st Which candidate will take advantage of this opportunity?

The cost of doing buisness in the U.S. = we need a tax plan that will make it financially possible for U.S. companies to keep jobs here. Which candidate will entice companies to stay in the U.S. creating more jobs? Which candidate plans to raise taxes on corporations with a high "windfall" tax?

A tax plan that is fair = everyone would pay to support the country they love. Even the illegals and tourists would pay with a sales tax.

One big issue is infanticide. I don't want anyone who could sponsor a bill allowing such a heinous practice with their hand on the red button. Anyone who could kill a baby after it has survived an abortion is the lowest of the morally low.

The offshore oil thingy. I got a chuckle out of H.R. 6899 (Comprehensive American Energy Security and Consumer Protection Act). So much for bipartisan.

Here is what happens:

Angle drillins done from 50 miles out until they actually strike oil at five miles out! You calculate the angle!

Yet, Florida won't be able to see the rigs, but might "feel" a blow-out!
